Half-Life 2 Walkthrough - Chapter 8: Sandtraps - Breaking Through to the Lighthouse

This part of the Half-Life 2 walkthrough covers the driving and fighting on your path to the rebel's base by the lighthouse. You'll need to clear out a zombie infested tunnel and two towns controlled by the Combine. If you need help getting through it all, then check inside.

    The Tunnel

    Move forward in the tunnel, but stop at the wreck. There's a ton of zombies here. Just park at the beginning and use the car's cannon to thin them out as best as you can. Try to make sure that none of them get behind you. You don't want to have to get out and fight them on foot. Step outside and kill any survivors. Then look to the lighted area to the right. Go through the vent to get into the supply room. Kill the two headcrabs and grab all the ammo, energy, and health lying on the floor. Just blast the cabinet away and step through the blue door. Then either clear a path with your gravity gun or knock your car over the other cars with the gravity gun. Drive outside once you're clear and head straight down the road.

    Combine House (Optional)

    As you go down the road, you'll see a little house off the road. There are combine in the yard behind the fence and six rollermines are dropped through the windows when you reach the top. I suggest that you skip it, because you will lose more ammo than you gain attacking it. You can drive right past without them noticing.

    First Town

    They're ready with a full blockade for you. It's possible to run it, but hard. You'd have to get over the wedges and avoid the rollermines without slowing down. You'll have to stop and fight if you don't want to depend on luck.

    Stop your car right before the wedge blocks and get out. Kill the gate guard as soon as possible. Then start clearing out the town. There's about five guards and two rollermines around. The AR2 is well suited to clearing the middle area. Just put your back against the gate and hold your ground. Use the shotgun to storm the house and get some supplies. Then drive out of town.

    Second Town

    Follow the road, but watch out for a hole in the middle. Swing around into the grass to avoid it. Then drive over the little hill by the destroyed gas tanker to get into the next town. Two dropships are putting rollermines into the town and depositing about four men outside the gate. Take cover as best as you can from their machine guns. You should also start trying to open the gate while you're waiting.

    You need to put two more batteries into the gate's control mechanism to open it. One is lying on the bed next to the mechanism. Grab it and put it into an open spot. You can look under a bathtub in the yard for the next one or just grab it from a destroyed car in the yard. This will open the gate. Kill the men and throw the rollermines into the sea if you haven't done so already. Then drive into the tunnel ahead.
