Guild Wars Runes

In Guild Wars, you can upgrade your character’s armor and your hero armor with runes. Only one rune per piece of armor is able to be used at a time. Runes are almost always non-stacking. What this means is that that if you have on one piece of armor with a specific rune, it will only be effective once, even if you have that same rune on another piece of armor. Runes can be used by playable characters as well as heroes.

To find runes, you can purchase them from a Rune Trader in a town or outpost. You can also buy them from other players in the game. You can even find them as drops from foes. However, they don’t drop plain and simple. They are on other items that have to be salvaged off of before use. To do this, you’ll need to use the expert or superior salvage kit.

Necromancer Runes

Necromancers can be a very versatile character in the game. They can be a minion master, use curses, death magic, and the Necromancer blood magic is quite powerful too. This profession needs to have a superior rune of each type of their specific runes on hand at all times.

  • Blood Magic – The minor rune of blood magic has +1 to that skill, the major rune has +2 to skill and -35 health, and the superior rune has +3 to skill and -75 health.
  • Curses – The The minor rune of curses has +1 to that skill, the major rune has +2 to skill and -35 health, and the superior rune has +3 to skill and -75 health.
  • Death Magic – The minor rune of death magic has +1 to that skill, the major rune has +2 to skill and -35 health, and the superior rune has +3 to skill and -75 health.
  • Soul Reaping – The minor rune of soul reaping has +1 to that skill, the major rune has +2 to skill and -35 health, and the superior rune has +3 to skill and -75 health.

Ranger Runes

Rangers can also choose to play their characters in different ways. The Guild Wars Ranger can be runed effectively depending on which style of gameplay is preferred by the player.

Guild Wars Ranger Attacking

  • Beast Mastery – Minor runes of beast mastery will have +1 to the skill, the major rune will have +2 to the skill plus a -35 to health, and the superior rune will have +3 to skill and a -75 to health total.
  • Expertise – Minor runes of expertise will have +1 to the skill, the major rune will have +2 to the skill plus a -35 to health, and the superior rune will have +3 to skill and a -75 to health total.
  • Marksmanship – Minor runes of marksmanship will have +1 to the skill, the major rune will have +2 to the skill plus a -35 to health, and the superior rune will have +3 to skill and a -75 to health total.
  • Wilderness Survival – Minor runes of wilderness survival will have +1 to the skill, the major rune will have +2 to the skill plus a -35 to health, and the superior rune will have +3 to skill and a -75 to health total.

Ritualist Runes

The Ritualist is a very helpful and versatile profession to play as. You can use it to solo or be a strong member in a party. These runes can be used to make your character that much stronger.

  • Channeling Magic – The channeling magic minor rune adds +1 to skill, the major rune adds +2 to the skill decreasing health -35, and the superior rune adds +3 to skill and decreases health -75.
  • Communing – The communing minor rune adds +1 to skill, the major rune adds +2 to the skill decreasing health -35, and the superior rune adds +3 to skill and decreases health -75.
  • Restoration Magic – The restoration magic minor rune adds +1 to skill, the major rune adds +2 to the skill decreasing health -35, and the superior rune adds +3 to skill and decreases health -75.
  • Spawning Power – The spawning power minor rune adds +1 to skill, the major rune adds +2 to the skill decreasing health -35, and the superior rune adds +3 to skill and decreases health -75.

Warrior Runes

The Guild Wars Warrior is the tanking class in the game. They need to focus on armor and health upgrades to be a strong part of a party.

  • Absorption – This minor rune has +1 to absorption, the major rune has +2 to absorption and -35 to health, and the superior rune has +3 to skill and -75 to health.
  • Axe Mastery – The axe mastery minor rune adds +1 to skill, the major rune adds +2 to the skill decreasing health -35, and the superior rune adds +3 to skill and decreases health -75.
  • Hammer Mastery – The hammer mastery minor rune adds +1 to skill, the major rune adds +2 to the skill decreasing health -35, and the superior rune adds +3 to skill and decreases health -75.
  • Strength – The strength minor rune adds +1 to skill, the major rune adds +2 to the skill decreasing health -35, and the superior rune adds +3 to skill and decreases health -75.
  • Sword Mastery – The sword mastery minor rune adds +1 to skill, the major rune adds +2 to the skill decreasing health -35, and the superior rune adds +3 to skill and decreases health -75.
  • Tactics – The tactics minor rune adds +1 to skill, the major rune adds +2 to the skill decreasing health -35, and the superior rune adds +3 to skill and decreases health -75.
