Croft Manor Level 1
Once you find yourself standing in an area that reminds you of an old deserted mine tunnel, ascend the steps and climb the vertical pole. Stop at the top of the pole to align yourself with the wooden platform in front and then leap across to it. Keep ascending the stairs until you emerge into a space that overlooks the Chapel. Eliminate the bats that have been disturbed by your presence first and this will also keep them from distracting you or attacking you later when you’re trying to balance on a beam or about to attempt a death-defying leap. After you take care of the bats, jump down over the edge of the platform to the one in front. Once again leap over the edge of this platform onto the platform behind this one and then go jump down to the ground.
Ascend the scaffolding on the right and then walk along the planks to the end. Leap across to reach the stone balcony and then jump onto the horizontal pole in front of you. Climb to the top of this pole and then jump forward to grab the higher pole. Now swing to the third and final pole and then swing and jump off this pole to reach the last platform. Head through the doorway and down the stairway. Read the section below “How to Open the Side Doors” to learn how to go about opening the side doors.
How to Open the Side Doors
Head left once you reach the bottom of the stairs and pick up the stone block sitting around the corner. Carry the block to the end of the hallway and step onto the pressure plate while standing close to the doorway. Once the gate rises, throw your block through the door.
Go back past the staircase you just came down and into the large chamber. Pick up the stone block on the left and just follow the same steps you followed with the last block. This time as the gate rises run and jump and roll through the doorway before the door closes. Now, just put both stone blocks on the pressure plate behind the statue.
The Hidden Treasures
- When you first start this level in the Tomb Raider Underworld walkthrough, check the urn just to your right when you come to the area that reminds you of an old mine tunnel to find a treasure.
- Also when you first start this level, check the urns next to the vertical pole and you’ll find a treasure.
- Once you descend the scaffolding to the Chapel floor, smash the urn on your right and you’ll find a treasure.
Croft Manor Level 2
Go back through the now open doors to the central chamber. Once you reach here your next goal is to open the Chapel’s main door. Read the section below entitled “The Chapel Door Puzzle” and then come back here.
Once you have opened the main Chapel door by rotating the level, you must move through as quickly as you can before it closes. To do this, run over and climb up the series of ledges on the central column next to the iron fence. Once you reach the top, quickly shimmy to the right side using the Interact Button and then climb up and Grapple-swing across to pass through the main door.
The Chapel Door Puzzle
The four levers rotate shapes that cast shadows on the stained glass window. Pull the lever that leaves the glass totally covered in shadow three times. Walk around and pull the lever opposite the first lever you pulled twice. If you do this right the two angels of light on the stained glass and the locks on either side of the main door will slide open. Pull the bar in the middle of the room counter clockwise to open the entrance. Time to move, remember you only have a short time to get through once you release the bar.
Croft Manor Level 3
Once you swing through the main Chapel door, head up the staircase and keep going up until you reach the secret chamber of Lara’s father. At this time follow the steps in the Tomb Raider Underworld section below entitled “Rune Pillar Puzzle Solution.” Once you have solved the Rune Pillar Puzzle, move on down the passage until you reach the fuse box. Pull the lever to open the door and go into the next room. You may get a feeling of deja vu upon entering this next room because it’s the same burning corridor that you dealt with in the Prologue. Travel through this area the same way you did the first time until you reach the part where you drop down through the gap in the broken banister. Note: This is where the game picks up the action from the point of the flashback at the start of the game.
After you’re in the main hall again, move across the room and climb up the pillar on the right of the fireplace. Leap up three more ledges and then shimmy right and drop down onto the balcony. Head forward until you reach the end of the balcony and then leap onto the horizontal pole. Ascend the pole and then the glass wall. Now drop down into the Tech Room to trigger a cut scene that marks the end of this level.
Rune Pillar Puzzle Solution
The gauntlets are glowing for a reason. Pull or push the Rune pillar all the way to the left past the entrance until it’s on the left side of the broken metal cage. Ascend the Rune pillar using the metal cage or pillar ledges and then leap from the top of this pillar to the higher pillar in front. Jump onto the balance beam on the pillar to the left and then shimmy over to the beam on the other side. Leap from there to the broken pillar and then leap backwards to the high exit.
Hidden Treasures in Croft Manor 2 and 3
- Look in the urn at the bottom of the steep staircase and you’ll find a treasure.
- After grabbing the first treasure above, go left just beyond the urn you just smashed and you’ll find a treasure at the end of the passage.
- When leaving the Rune pillar room, look in the urn on the right of the tunnel to find a treasure.
Southern Mexico Level 1
Travel along the trail you’re on at the beginning of this level until you reach the first temple. Once the small cinematic is over, ascend the small pillar in front of the ruin. Next, jump to the ledge on the next pillar. Leap to the next ledge and move left slowly and then leap across to the ledge on the front of the temple. Stand up and jump to the ledge above and then up three more ledges. Shimmy left, jump across the gap and then down to the ledge below. Move a few feet to the left, jump down and then pull your self up and through the window.
The Grapple point you see directly in front of you will open the gate in front of the temple. Follow the instructions in the Tomb Raider Underworld for PC section below entitled “The Stone Jaguar Temple Climb” to learn how to do this.
The Stone Jaguar Temple Climb
Fire your Grapple at the ring, then back up and move back out of the window and then rappel down a few feet. Swing over to the right and jump through the entrance. Grab the stone Jaguar Head from the pedestal and then wall jump up the right side of the room to reach the upper floor. Stop and grab the health pack sitting near the base of the shaft. Drop down from the window. Now, backwards jump from the ledge and land on the balance beam on the pillar outside. Jump down to the ground.
Hidden Treasures in Mexico Level 1
- Stop your motorbike in the tunnel just before the first jump and look in the urns to find a treasure.
- You’ll find a treasure in one of the urns on the right, located above the steps leading to the first temple.
- Look in one of the urns on the left of the room where you grab the stone Jaguar Head to find a treasure.
Southern Mexico Level 2
Stay on the motorcycle until the trail reaches a fork in the road. Head right until you come to the entrance to an old building overlooking the Mayan ball court. Get off your motorcycle in front of this building and crawl under the half open door. Read the section below entitled “Jaguar Head Calendar Puzzle” at this point.
After you have finished getting the action going on the ball court, head back outside, but be prepared to take care of the panthers that are waiting for you. Once you’re ready to leave the temple area, get on your motorcycle and head down the right hand path. Use the log ramp to jump the spike pit that was put there by poachers when you come to it. There’s no handy ramp at the next pit, so head down the left path and then drop down when you’re clear. Follow the turn in the road around to the right and then head up the stairs and through the arched gateway. Once you reach the crossroads, head left through the tunnel and then keep going forward until you reach a stairway that the motorcycle doesn’t want to cross. Get off your bike, head through the tunnel on foot and then keep going until you reach another ancient ruin.
Jaguar Head Calendar Puzzle
Begin this puzzle by putting the stone Jaguar Head in the center of the Calendar. Make sure the statue front is facing forward. Take hold of the handle and rotate the rings until the two outermost marker tiles are lined up right next to each other and then release the handle.
Move over to the skull statue on the outer ring and take hold of it from the outside. Push it to rotate the outer ring in an anti-clockwise direction and the central ring will slide free. Go back to the Jaguar Head handle and pull until you have lined up the obsidian marker tiles on the two innermost rings.
At this point in the Tomb Raider Underworld walkthrough, move the skull statue back to its original position. The central ring will go back in place as the outer ring rotates. Once all three rings are aligned, a cut scene will begin as thing begin to get in motion on the ball court. Things are in motion at this point, so take a look at the other side of the court using your Field Camera, to get an idea of what you need to do next.
The Hidden Treasures
- Follow this Tomb Raider Underworld walkthrough and look in the urn to the left in the ruins just before the First Calendar entrance to find a treasure.
- Look in the urn to the left, right by the First Calendar entrance.
Southern Mexico Level 3
There will be a battle going on between poachers and panthers when you first arrive at the temple, so stay back and take a look around with your Field Camera to find out where the opposition is hiding. Use the cover available to help you when you decide to make your move and pick your enemies off one at a time. After you take are of the opposition, follow the steps in the Tomb Raider Underworld section below entitled “Climbing the Exterior of the Stone Headdress Temple” to make it into the temple.
Climbing the Exterior of the Stone Headdress Temple
Climb the pillar on your far left to reach the horizontal pole and yank it out of its home. Or you can go to the base of the steps and you’ll find some poles lying on the ground. Travel over to the pillar on the right and ram the end the pole in the hole. Jump up on the pole and then use it to leap to the ledge above you. Once you’re on the ledge, shimmy left and then jump up to the next ledge. Jump across to the pillar on your left. Move until you are lined up with the handholds on the wall and then backwards jump and grab onto them. Free climb along the wall to the right and then backwards jump onto the balance beam behind you. Move down the beam and then drop down and hang onto the outside of the beam. Move slowly along the beam until you’re lined up for a backwards leap to the pillar just behind it. Climb up on the beam and then jump to the balance beam on your left. Jump down and shimmy left and then jump over to the beam in front. Jump from there to the ledge above. Move slowly around the corner and jump down to reach another area in Tomb Raider Underworld.
Hidden Treasures in Southern Mexico Level 3
- Look in the urn on the left of the stairs when you first arrive at the temple.
- Run up the stairs to the Stone Headdress temple doorway and look around the upper level to the right. You should find an urn on the edge of the drop overlooking an area below.
- Right after you finish climbing the exterior of the Stone Headdress Temple, look in the urn below the metal bar to find a treasure.
Southern Mexico Level 4
Climb up onto the top of the first stone platform located at the back of the chamber. Jump up and right to reach a higher platform and then keep climbing up and to the right. Stand on the far left once you reach the top. Fire the Grapple at the anchor point across the room and then walk right until the Grapple Line is stretched around the block on top of the pillar. Use the Interact Button to pull on the line and pull the block off the pillar. You’ll be attacked by a swarm of bats after the block falls and makes a hole for you. Once you have finished with the bats, jump down to the hole you made.
Take a close look at the hole you made in the floor and you should see a slightly lower section chipped away in one corner. There’s a way down there, just walk over to the edge and drop down. The fall to the bottom is a long way, so you’ll need to make Saving Grabs throughout this part. Jump down again from there and grab hold of the handholds. Backwards jump onto the left pillar and then slide down to the floor. Now, climb up to the altar and grab the Stone Headdress, but watch out for the spiders that attack you when you grab the Stone Headdress. Once you have the Stone Headdress read the Tomb Raider Underworld for PC walkthrough section below entitled “Climbing the Interior of the Stone Headdress Temple” and then come back here.
One of the two main doors to this enclosure is damaged at the top, so climb up and crawl through to reach the outside. Watch out for the poachers that are hanging around. Run as fast as you can to your motorcycle and ride out back out to the main crossroad.
Climbing the Interior of the Stone Headdress Temple
Climb to the top of the taller of the two broken vertical poles and sit on top. Jump up to the ledge on the wall to the right of the altar and then up again. Now, move along the series of ledges on your left. Drop down to the ledge below you. Go left along that ledge then jump down and grab hold of the handholds below you. Free climb along the wall to the left and then jump up to the next series of handholds. Go around the corner to the left and then jump across to more handholds. Move down and left and then jump to grab the vertical pole on your left. Leap from there to the handholds across from you, jump up to the ledge and then across to the next ledge on the left. Shimmy along to the left corner where you entered and then climb up and onto the roof. At this point in this Tomb Raider Underworld for PC walkthrough, you have now reached the interior of the Stone Headdress Temple.
Southern Mexico Level 5
Once you reach the crossroads facing the ball court entrance, follow the left hand path and increase your speed for the log ramp ahead that will take you over the poachers pit trap. Keep going up the trail until you come to another ruin (which is actually the opposite side of the ball court you saw in the first Calendar). Park your motorcycle in a spot that is great for a quick get away. Take care of the panthers and poachers that will attack you and then go to the far end and ascend the stairway to the second Calendar entrance. Push the moveable block on the right until it’s beside the sliding lever and then grab the nearby pole and climb up onto the top of the block. Slide the pole in the hole and hang on to raise the door on your left. Lara’s weight will pull the lever down, but the door will start to close as soon as she lets go of the pole. Once the lever is at its lowest point, leap or drop off and then run through, using the Crouch Button to make a rolling dive under the closing door.
Follow the instructions in the Tomb Raider Underworld walkthrough section above in Southern Mexico Level 2 entitled “The Jaguar Head Calendar Puzzle” and then come back here. The moment you complete the Calendar puzzle, the doorway to Xibalba will be revealed to you in the ball court below, but the sand is falling. Go back outside using the hole in the wall on your left, jump on your motorcycle and then head back up the path you came to reach the temple. Take the sharp left at the crossroads to enter the ball court. Drive straight down and under the statue, but make sure to maintain your speed to make it over the hidden pitfall. If you fall into the pit or are too slow in getting to the entrance, it will close and you’ll have to do the first Calendar puzzle over again to open it.
Southern Mexico Level 6
Once you have finished sliding and slithering your way into the lost underground city of Xibalba, the Mayan Land of the Dead, ride your motorcycle down the passageways. Jump across the first two pits when you come to them and then look for a pit without a log ramp. Stop in front of it. Jump off your bike and leap up and stand on the horizontal pole. Make a wall jump to the left to reach the higher horizontal pole and then leap to grab the ledge. The column you grabbed onto is a weight operated lever that will raise the next ramp.
At this point in the Tomb Raider Underworld walkthrough you will need to get on the bike. Drive up the ramp and over the pit. Keep riding all the way down and through into the Council Chamber. In this room you’ll find seven seated statues, with two of them missing the staff that would normally be in their hand. Your first job is to replace these staffs. Travel to the top of the intact staircase leading to the Ratting House entrance and you’ll find the first staff. Take it back to the Council Chamber and put it in the hand of the statue to the right of the stairs. You’ll find the second staff lying on the ground next to the statue opposite. Place it in the hand of the statue and a cut scene will begin showing four other statues being released from their shackles.
At this point you’ll be able to move the thrones of the four statues and turn them around to face the four doors of the chamber. When you do this you’ll unlock each of the respective trap door challenges associated with each. After you have completed the challenges, take the tile key and place it in the central plinth and then push the relevant throne toward the plinth. Once you have all four thrones have been centered, you have completed the deadly challenges of Xibalba and your path to the next page of your adventure will open.
To begin, rotate the statue opposite the blue slot so that it faces the other direction and this will open the first door. Fire your Grapple at the Grapple ring on the outer wall on the right and climb up the line to the ledge above. Leap across to the platform to the left of the ledge and slide down. Then jump off to the right at the end and go through the doorway. Crawl through the rubble and take the blue Jaguar House Key from the altar.
Southern Mexico Level 7
Place the Jaguar House Key in the blue space on the plinth in the Council Chamber. Push the reversed statue towards the plinth and then turn the statue in front of the yellow slot on the plinth around so that it faces the other direction.
Go over to the area behind the vertical poles with the skulls on them and wall jump up to the ledge. Stand up and leap across to the handholds opposite you. Climb upwards and to the left and then jump across to the right. Move your way across the handholds and jump to the right. Use the handholds there to climb up. Leap across to the broken pole on your right. Climb up to the top of the pole. Now jump across to the next pole and then the one after that. Once you make it this far, jump onto another broken pole and then onto the ledge on the square pillar. Work your way around the ledge until you come to the two hook poles. Jump up on the first one. Move along it to the second one then drop onto the ledge and move around to the right. Stand up and leap across to the balance beam. From there go to the doorway that leads into the altar room.
Standing at the doorway, roll across when the first row of spikes retract. Stay in a crouch position, roll under the blades and then across the second set of spikes when the Situational Adrenaline starts. Stay crouched when you pass the second set of spikes. Repeat the rolling action you just did in the first Situational Adrenaline to reach the altar and grab the yellow Razor House Key. Now that you have the next key, turn around and climb up the wall on the right. Use the top of the first blade as a balance beam. Drop down to the other side and go back to the Council Room.
Southern Mexico Level 8
At this point in Tomb Raider Underworld, put the Razor House Key in the yellow slot on the plinth in the Council Chamber. Push the reversed statue towards the center and then turn the throne in front of the red slot for the Flame House Key puzzle.
Ascend the main stairway and leap across to the beam on the right. Leap to the square pillar and shimmy left. Stand up and leap forward onto the round pillar. Leap from there to the handholds on the wall and then climb up the wall to the right. Jump backwards from the wall to the horizontal pole and then swing onto the next pole. Stand up on that pole and swing over to the ledge just in front. Shimmy around the corner and then backwards leap onto the round pillar. Jump onto the square pillar, shimmy around to the other side of the pillar and then stand up and cross over to the two hooked poles next to the square pillar. Now, jump onto the balance beam and then leap to the door.
After you’re inside the chamber, wait until the flame jet on the right momentarily subsides then jump up on the lowest horizontal pole and stand on it. Jump across to the pole on the left of the room the instant the flame under it subsides. Now quickly move right and stand up on the part of the pole that isn’t on fire. Once the flames subside again, go back left along the pole and jump up onto the one above. Once there, leap off to the next pole once the flames on the left subside and then jump down and grab the red Flame House Key. Now that you have the next key, jump up onto the pole on the left. Stand up so you can reach the pole above and then keep moving to the pole on your right. Swing on this pole, jump to the next one when the flames subside. Swing down to the exit and leave.
Southern Mexico Level 9
After you make it back to the Council Chamber, put the Flame House Key in the red slot. Push the corresponding statue toward the plinth and then turn the statue on the right to open the door.
Head up the staircase just behind this statue and through the doorway. Run through the center when the blocks move aside to get the get the Rattling House Key. To exit the room, fire the Grapple at the ring and pull on it to put the block to the floor. Pull the block towards you with a series of Grapple pulls until it settles into a groove in the floor and the nearest set of stone crushers will stop closing. Stand up on the block and wall jump up the side of the crushers when they are close enough. Run along the top of the moving slabs and take a running jump down to exit the room.
Once you have the next key, place it in the plinth and push the corresponding statue towards the plinth. Now that all four room keys are in place, you can open the chamber exit. Go get your motorcycle and drive it onto one of the two pressure plates and then get off your bike. Go stand on the other to open the door below the plinth. Get on your motorcycle and drive into the next section.
Southern Mexico Level 10
To continue in this section of the Tomb Raider Underworld for PC walkthrough, keep traveling down the long passageway until you have to get off your motorcycle. Grab the stone jaguar head and then climb up and crawl through the hole. Keep going on foot until the cut scene starts.
Once you enter the chamber with the glowing blue pool, make sure you don’t fall in. Note: This pool is Jormungandr’s poison as described in the myth and will kill you instantly. Eliminate the thralls that attack you but make sure you don’t jump into the pool. Once you have eliminated the thralls, head around the outside of the pool. Leap over the gap on the right to reach the back of the serpent statue. Ascend up the rock to the right of the serpent’s head. Jump from the very edge of the rock to the horizontal pole. Hang from the pole and Lara’s weight will turn off the flow of poison and drain the first level of poison. Don’t pull or hang from the Grapple ring beneath the serpent’s head or it will turn the flow back on. Leave it alone and simply turn around after draining the first level of poison. Swing back on the pole and then climb up the rocks on your right. Leap onto the ledge and move left and then leap backwards to safety.
Hidden Treasures in Southern Mexico Level 9 &10
- After escaping the Council Chamber on your bike, keep riding all the way down the tunnels until you reach you reach a set of stairs that lead to a makeshift ramp. Look in the urn beside the stairs to find a treasure.
- After climbing through the rubble and leaping down, turn around the check the urns to find a treasure.
- After you see the mural in the cut scene, check in the urn in the opposite corner to fiind a treasure.
Southern Mexico Level 11
Jump down to the ledge right in front of the entrance. Leap down three more ledges and then onto the pillar on your right. The pillar will start to crumble beneath you, so quickly work your way to the other side. Jump across to the pillar on the right. Leap to the right side where it is safe Climb up on top of the big rock. Leap from there to the balance beam. Go all the way across the next beam as it disintegrates beneath you. Spring onto the next beam and then onto the floor.
Keep heading forward and then leap up on the ledge on the far right pillar to shimmy left. Stand up and wall jump up the ledge on the top left of the next pillar. Move left slowly and then backwards jump onto the balance beam behind you. Continue moving along and then jump down.
Climb on the rock behind the Thor statue and Grapple swing across the pool. Once you land, attach your Grapple to the gold ring on the shield on Thor’s arm and tug it towards you. Jump onto the groove on the shield and shimmy left. Now backwards leap to the pillar on your left. Keep moving left along the ledge and then jump backward to safety. Climb up on the slab to the right of the serpent’s head and then to the ledge on the left.
Leap up to the next ledge above. Move right slowly. Leap forward and grab the horizontal pole below you. Hanging from this pole will turn off the flow and lower the level of the pool. Turn around on the pole and swing back. Hang from the floor and shimmy to the right.
Southern Mexico Level 11
From the side, jump down the series of ledges beneath the serpent’s head to make it to the ground. Take care of the thralls that will attack you. It’s time to get Thor’s Belt. Attach your Grapple to the large stone screw in the center and wind the line around in it a clockwise direction. Tug the Grapple to pull the screw all the way down until the hammer on Thor’s statue moves (which should open the alcove hiding Thor’s Belt). Climb up on top of the pillar on the right of the statue and jump across to the steps. Enter the alcove to retrieve Thor’s Belt.
Once you have the belt, jump down to the central platform. Push the Rune stone forward, parallel to Thor’s statue until it slides into the slot in the floor. Climb up on the shorter pillar. Fire your Grapple at the ring beneath the serpent’s mouth. Grapple jump diagonally across to the corner ledges on the pillar on the far side of the serpent’s head. Now quickly jump up to the second level to get out of the reach of the rising poison.
Once you reach the second level, go over to the wall opposite Thor’s statue. Climb up the series of ledges to your right. Once you reach the last ledge, jump across to the platform on the right. Climb onto the balance beam and work your way to the right. Jump across to the broken beam and jump down.
Climb up onto the top of the block that juts out over the edge and jump across to the top of the Rune stone that you moved earlier. Leap to the pillar in front and then from there to the hammer on Thor’s statue. Turn around, fire the Grapple at the ring beneath the Serpent’s mouth and then swing back to the pillar beneath the exit. Now, climb up and over the ledge to make your escape from this shimmering pool of poison.
After you are safely at the top of the pool, you will need to retrace your steps all the way to the surface. Begin by moving up the stairs and climbing through the rubble. Start up your motorcycle when you reach it and ride all the way up the tunnel. When you reach the rubble pile, dismount and push the Rune stone on the left then drive through. Ride your motorcycle all the way back up and through the main exit of the Council Chamber. Now go all the way to the top using the log ramps. The final log ramp will have to be raised so you can drive through. To do so, dismount from your bike then jump up and stand on the horizontal pole. Head down the pole toward the wall. Now wall jump to reach the higher horizontal pole. Move to the left end and then stand up. Leap to the pole on the left. Jump to the ledge ahead of you and another weight operated lever will be activated and will raise the ramp. Now, get on your motorcycle and keep going (make sure you get your speed up for the pit). Get off your bike and place the Jaguar Head on the statue on the right. Pull the lever on the left side of the chamber to leave. Finally, get on your bike and build up speed for the last pit and you are free. This completes the Southern Mexico level 11 of the Tomb Raider Underworld walkthrough.
