The Famitsu website is full of goodies waiting to be discovered for those can manage to understand some Japanese.
An especially useful feature is the online RPG Maker VX Character Generator. It allows users to use a wide variety of features to create unique looking characters for their games.
In this article I will walk you through some basic steps to use this generator.
Getting Started: Male or Female (RPG Maker VX: Custom Character Generator)
First of all, click here to get to the RPG Maker VX Character Generator. It will take you to the Famitsu website which is entirely in Japanese.
Once you get there, scroll down a bit until you can see the generator as shown in the picture below.
If you look on top of that picture, you’ll notice two letters in red, A and B. Clicking on A. 男性キャラ will allow you to create male characters whereas clicking on B. 女性キャラ will allow you to create female characters.
Making Your Own Character (RPG maker VX: Custom Character Generator)
Let’s now look at the wide assortment of features available to customize your character.
If you look on the upper left of the corner, you’ll see the default character (bald and without any clothes!) As you add various features, you’ll see him/her change depending on the options you’ve selected.
Keep in mind that you’ll need to click right underneath that character when you’re done with your character in order to download it (it says “character download). I’ve identified the button as shown in the picture below.
Let’s now see the various categories in the RPG Maker VX Character Generator.
The first category (髪型), highlighted in yellow in the picture below, provides all kinds of haircuts .
The second category (髪追加) , provides additional hairstyles such as braids, ponytails and the like.
The third category (服装), provides the outfit for your character.
The fourth category (マント), is composed of all sorts of capes.
The fifth category (装飾１) offers various ornaments such as headbands, scarves and the like.
The sixth category (装飾2) provides some more accessories such as eye patches, helmets and more.
The last category (おまけ) is composed of miscellaneous features such as angel and bat wings.
The first category, highlighted in yellow in the picture below, provides all kinds of haircuts (髪型).
