After your beer run all the way back to Azeroth for Mirren Longbeard of the Longbeards’ camp in Hellfire Peninsula, the least he can do is throw a little work your way. Mirren has the bright idea that if he can gather some feathers from the kaliri that the local Arakkoa keep as pets, he might be able to make a tidy profit back in Azeroth. Enough to keep him in Nethergarde Bitter for awhile, anyway.

Of course, by “gather feathers” he really means that you should do it for him. At least he’s willing to pay you this time, and if you complete the “The Finest Down” quest, he’ll also hand over his very unique personal drinking hat.

“The Finest Down”

You’ll find Mirren Longbeard and his brother at the Longbeards’ camp in Southwestern Hellfire Peninsula. He and his brother sit atop a short rise just to the right of the entrance to the Den of Haal’esh, which is, conveniently, your destination for this quest.

The Haal’eshi Windwalkers and Haal’eshi Talonguards raise the kaliri as pets, so you’ll have to head inside to find them. Before you do, though, be sure to stop at the lone kaliri nest just outside the Longbeards’ camp before you head inside. There are usually a pair of kaliri here guarding there nest, and killing them can give you a bit of a head start on the quest.

Once the parents are down, you can also loot the nest to spawn a hatchling and one mre chance at a feather.

If you haven’t yet undertaken Mirren’s brother Gremni’s “The Arakkoa Threat” quest, you may want to pick it up too, as you can do them both simultaneously.

Killing Some Kaliri

Once you’ve dispatched and looted the two kaliri hanging out near the entrance to the Den of Haal’esh, it’s time to head inside. You’re going to have a hard time avoiding contact with the local Arakkoa in here, and they’re not going to take kindly to your killing and plucking their pets, so you may want to clear them out as you go through to avoid any unwanted guests while fighting.

These birds have a special swoop attack that will knock you off your feet and interrupt any special attacks or spells you’re planning, so watch out for it.

The top floor on the right side of the den has two separate nests and as many as five kaliri patrolling it at a given time, so you may want to fly directly up there if you have a flying mount.

Keep working your way through the Den until you’ve found eight feathers. The drop rate isn’t great, so be prepared for an extended stay.

Return to the Longbeards

When you return, Mirren is overjoyed to have his precious feathers. He’s also a bit reluctant to part with his favorite hat, but a deal is a deal. Mirren’s Drinking Hat is one of the most unique in the game, granting the wearer a free beer when you use it as an item. Pretty awesome.
