Starcraft 2 Overseer Strategy, Tips and Tricks

Zerg vs Zerg

Overseers are a significant step up from Overlords, not least in their pace, which makes them useful scouts. Deploy them to sniff out burrowed Zerg enemy forces - especially useful against surprise Baneling traps. Steer clear of enemy anti-air such as Hydralisks and Queens, and watch out for pursuing Mutalisks.

Zerg vs Terran

Use Overseers in the second wave of any base attack to Contaminate any remaining Terran buildings once the main defenses are down to slow up rebuilding efforts. Also highly useful if you suspect Ghosts are in the area. Give Mutalisk support where necessary to ward off Viking attacks, and beware upgraded Missile Turrets.

Zerg vs Protoss

Overseers are great for infiltrating enemy forces with their Changelings to get a recon of your Protoss opponent’s base and defenses. Station one near your Queens at your own base to prevent Dark Templars slipping through and taking them out. Stalkers cancel out the Overseers speed advantage, while Void Rays get a damage bonus against them, so are to be avoided at all costs.

Conclusion

The Starcraft 2 Overseer is a highly useful unit, functioning both as a guardian for your bases and nosing out your opponent’s secrets. Like many other Zerg units, the Overseer presents a player with many flexible tactical options, so getting a good grasp of these is the first step to making the best use of these mobile eyes in the sky.
