The Ps3 Blinking Yellow Light Problem

When it comes to the PS3, it can be a serious problem. But, first, you should know that the blinking yellow light on your PS3 is caused by overheating. Now, this can be a hard problem to solve, which is why a lot of gamers choose to send it back to Sony and hope that their warranty is still good. While the blinking yellow light can be a serious problem, there are some steps that you can take to try for a do it yourself PS3 repair at home.

Try These Easy Steps First

Before you box your PS3 back up to send to Sony, try these three easy PS3 repairs first:

1. Restart your PS3 and wait about 30 minutes. Then, fire it back up and see if this helps. There have been a couple of times that I’ve had this happen and had to turn it off for about 2 hours, and then everything was hunky dory again. Sometimes, just like a computer, it just needs a break.

2. Check all of your cables to make sure that none are loose. Any cable that plugs into your PS3 can easily work it’s way loose, especially if you have the controller cords are stretched.

3. Gently take out your hard drive then replace it, as sometimes this can reset everything back to the original settings. (There is more about replacing your PS3 hard drive here on Bright Hub.)

Normally, if your PS3 has just gotten overheated, one of these simple fixes will clear up your blinking yellow lights. If not, then the problem might be more serious.

If you tried these steps and the yellow lights are still blinking, then you have a couple of options. You can either send it back to Sony and allow them to fix the PS3, which will either still be under warranty or will cost you around $150. Either option from Sony will have you without a console for about two months.

Or you can choose to try to fix it yourself. This is actually a hard PS3 repair if you try to get into the console yourself and I would in NO WAY recommend this for anyone who is not familiar with computer components or with console components. You can easily damage the PS3 and then you’re out everything.

The third option is to find a local computer repair shop that can perform Sony repairs. If you live near a larger city, you should be able to find one. Some Game Stops will be able to point you in the right direction, as they will know who is local that can help you with that type of repair, so I would recommend that you check them out if you don’t feel comfortable trying this PS3 repair on your own.

Blinking Yellow Lights Aren’t Forever

No matter how you get it repaired, keep in mind that the blinking yellow lights aren’t forever. They can be fixed. So, if this happens to you, don’t worry too much. Just keep a calm head and try out these PS3 repair tips.
