MMO Sports Games
While these are not quite as popular as other categories of MMO games, there are still a few that are hitting the market. These are the MMO games that involve sports, such as golf, football, basketball, and so on. In September of 2008, Electronic Arts tried to move in on this area of gaming as they lanuched their NHL ‘09, which is a MMOSG where gamers will control their own hockey team and character to compete for the cup. But, games in this category have fallen flat, so it will be interesting to see how this MMOSG does.
MMO Racing Games
For fans of racing games, these are a dream come true. No longer to you have to play against only the computer – you can now race against players from all over the world and test your skills against them. While there are only a few of these out on the market so far, there are several that are heading out into the open soon. Some of the more popular ones that are on this small list so far include: Kart Rider, Test Drive Unlimited, and Drift City.
MMO Rhythm Games
These are the evolution of those annoying dancing games that all the kids like. Remember Dance Dance Revolution? Well, that inspired this whole genre of MMO games. MMO rhythm games are those that will pit your dancing skills against others from all over the globe and see where you fit in. While there are very few of these out there, they are extremely popular in other parts of the world and are starting to catch on in the United States and the UK.
MMO Manager Games
There are tons of these out there and you probably don’t even realize it. These MMO games are the ones that are considered the easiest of the categories and they don’t take a lot of time or effort to learn or play. What terms these MMO manager games is the fact that the gamer logs in and gives the game a set of commands to execute throughout the week or month to defeat their opponents. These games allow the gamer to log in only a few times a week and control their game play for as long as they’d like. One of the most popular games of this type is Project Rockstar, which combines both the MMO manager game and the music industry.
