Command and Conquer: Generals Unit Strategies

Command and Conquer: Generals has an array of assault units ranging from armored vehicles, missile launchers, dedicated infantry and special commando units. The futuristic versions of real war units make every campaign and skirmish battle fun and intense. But managing them can be very difficult if you have limited knowledge about each unit’s characteristics and abilities. With the help of this Command and Conquer: Generals Walkthrough, you will be able to know more about their unique abilities, which will help win battles easily.

Each vehicle, infantry and air craft has its own pros and cons. Understanding these aspects can help you win battles very easily. This Command and Conquer: Generals tactics guide gets up close and personal on each unit of the USA, GLA and China factions and reveals their strengths and weaknesses.

Command and Conquer: Generals Tactics: USA Infantry Units

The USA in Command and Conquer: Generals boasts the most effective and futuristic counterparts of today’s modern weapon. One of the key infantry units of the USA is the pathfinder and missile defender whereas the Paladin is the strongest armored vehicle. A squad of only 5 or 6 Paladins can wreak havoc on enemy base camps. Check out these and other units including the enigmatic Colonel Burton and the Tomahawk missile launcher in this in-depth Command and Conquer: Generals Tactics guide for units.

Ranger:

The Ranger may be the most basic unit, but it has the capability to capture key buildings and fight against enemy light vehicles and infantry. There are two cheap research types at the barracks to upgrade rangers. With the flash bang upgrade, Rangers can forcibly evacuate enemy units garrisoned inside civilian structures or use it against the angry GLA mob. With the “capture building” technology, Rangers can take over important buildings like hospitals (mainly used to heal damaged units) and oil derricks (for additional funds).

Pathfinder (Sniper):

Pathfinder USA

Pathfinders are excellent against infantry units, particularly GLA powered stinger sites. They remain hidden when not in action. Use them silently to garrison inside civilian buildings and watch them snipe at a very long distance. They will eliminate infantry units automatically if they fall in the line of sight. But they can get easily killed by enemy vehicles. Use them cleverly against GLA stinger sites and protect them against enemy tanks and rocket defenders.

Missile Defender:

Missile defenders are the anti-tank units with a greater potency to destroy enemy vehicles, particularly if upgraded to “laser missile attack”. The upgrade improves their range, accuracy and missile rate. Click on any missile unit and have this free option upgraded first.

Use missile defenders to attack enemy vehicles, tanks and structures. The best strategy is to put them inside nearby bunkers and civilian buildings to ‘pop some tanks’. You can also place then inside Humvees to convert them into anti-tank vehicles and improve

Missile Launchers USA

their speed.

Colonel Burton:

One the key Command and Conquer: Generals tactics is to employ this commando unit very cleverly. Colonel Burton can place C4 charges in enemy structures and has a very useful light machine gun against enemy infantry. He can remain hidden and kill infantry with his knife quietly. Use him to place a remote controlled bomb at the enemy supply stash and detonate it to cut their resource gathering ability.

Command and Conquer: Generals Tactics: USA Assault Vehicles

Paladin:

Paladin USA

A Paladin is the toughest unit that can reduce structures into a pile of rubble within structures. Use at least 5-7 Paladins to inflict massive damage against enemy vehicles, units and even GLA stinger sites!

Paladin also has an additional ability to bring down scud missiles of the GLA. It can fire lasers to shoot down scud missiles. Remember that, these units are costly, so use them wisely. Paladins can be enabled by spending one “generals” point.

Humvee:

A Humvee can be a very potent strategy in Command and Conquer: Generals. Humvees are quick and have the ability to hold pathfinders, Rangers and missile defenders. But, you can garrison only five troops. Placing two pathfinders, one unit of missile defender and Ranger each can do the trick. Using 5-6 Humvees with 5 troops inside can be very potent against enemy vehicles and units. The path finder will take out stinger sites, missile defenders will destroy enemy tanks and Rangers can easily take out enemy infantry. You can also try your own combinations to inflict maximum damage.

If you want Humvees with more fire power, then build a strategy center, click on the factory and select TOW missiles to enhance their firepower with rockets.

Crusader:

Crusaders are basic tank units that can inflict massive damage if used in large groups. They are best against enemy vehicles and structures but weak against anti-tank. Their armor is quite frail, but can be upgraded and increased by 25 percent. All you have to do is research them at the strategy center.

Command and Conquer Generals Tactics for Crusader Unit

Battle drones and spy drones are very cheap upgrades that enhance a simple crusader’s attack power. You can also add secondary weapons in the form of a battle drone. They are very effective against infantry and anti-tank armed forces. Spy drones can improve a crusader’s line of sight. Create at least 8-10 upgraded crusaders and send them to the enemy base for the initial attack.

Tomahawk:

Tomahawk Missile Launcher

This mobile missile launcher can launch powerful tomahawk missiles at a long range. Always place them in areas far away from any stinger missile sites. A single can be very useful to destroy enemy structures perched on mountains or cliffs. A tomahawk missile launcher is very vulnerable to anti-tank units and vehicles. It must be backed up with paladins, crusaders and infantry.

Command and Conquer: Generals Tactics for Aircraft Units

Raptor:

Raptors are powerful air units that can inflict maximum damage at a specific target. But you will have to use them with extreme care. Attack vulnerable areas not guarded by any anti-tank units or stinger sites. While escorting a squad of Raptors, make sure you guide them through a safe path, but before you pilot them, check whether they are upgraded with the laser missile technology. This will enhance their fire power by 25 percent.

Stealth Fighter:

As the name suggests, a stealth fighter can hide itself from enemy units and reveal when it attacks. Do not use these costly aircrafts for an all out attack as they are extremely fragile. Use them to guard friendly areas vulnerable to enemy infantry and vehicle attacks. Click on a stealth fighter, then click on the “guard” icon and finally click on the area you want to guard. It will hover around and automatically attack any infiltrators which trespass the area. After attacking it will replenish its fire power at the airfield and return to the guard site. Stealth Fighter can be invoked by spending one general point. You can increase its damage by 25 percent if you research laser missile technology at the airfield.

Comanche:

Comanches can be an excellent air backup for ground infantry and vehicles. It fires rockets first and then uses its nose cannon to spurt bullets continuously. You can upgrade them with rocket pods to fire rockets on enemy units constantly.

Take 3-4 Comanches as air defense along with your armed vehicles and units to inflict slight, yet momentous impact. Beware! Do not take these air units too close to GLA stinger missile sites or any anti-tank units.

Aurora Bomber:

Aurora Bomber USA

In Command and Conquer: Generals, USA faction’s air fighters are extremely effective, yet too fragile to withstand stinger or anti-tank attacks. Aurora Bomber is one of them. Just a single launch of its explosive bomb can cause serious damage, but the speed gets decreased by 50 percent, so if they fly over any stinger sites, they will surely get hit and crash land within seconds. Use them only for damaging GLA nuke silos. A pack of 2-3 Aurora Bombers will do the trick.

Command and Conquer: Generals Unit Tactics: GLA Foot Unit Strategies:

The GLA or Global Liberation Army is known for its resourcefulness and shrewd tactics. Much of the armored vehicles including technicals and marauders have the ability to scavenge destroyed enemy vehicles to upgrade their firepower.

One of the important units to look out for is the scud launcher, bomb truck and the terrorist infantry unit. The truck can be very deceptive and can inflict serious damage on enemy structures. Learn more about GLA units and the strategies required to use them in this Command and Conquer: Generals tactics guide.

Rebel:

Command and Conquer: Generals screenshot GLA Infantry

The rebel is the basic infantry unit of the GLA. It has the ability to capture buildings, which can be researched at the barracks. There are several additional abilities that can be upgraded. You can increase the damage by 25 percent if you research “AP bullets” at the black market. What’s more, you can also use their stealth ability against enemy infantry. All you have to do is research the “camouflage” upgrade at the Palace to have this ability.

With the help of stealth, the GLA rebel units can ambush enemy units, particularly in areas that are left undefended. With stealth, you can use them to capture buildings and oil derricks silently.

Terrorists:

These are very dangerous when used against enemy tanks and missile launchers, but can easily fall prey to Gatling tanks, Humvees, pathfinders or foot infantry. Always disperse them and then detonate enemy units, do not use them in packs.

In most skirmish maps, you will find vacant black-colored cars. Garrison them inside to create car bombs and drive inside enemy buildings and units to inflict maximum damage. But, remember that they can also cause damage to nearby GLA structures and units, so do not detonate near the friendly units. These are very resourceful and are the one of the best Command and Conquer Generals tactics for the GLA faction.

RPG Trooper:

GLA RPG Trooper

The RPG trooper is very handy unit against both land and air units, but can get killed by the Chinese Gatling tanks, American Humvees and infantry units. Use 5-6 units to destroy armored vehicles and aircraft easily. You can also put them inside GLA Technicals to inflict maximum damage. Just like the rebels, the RPG troopers’ fire power can be increased by 25 percent if upgraded to “AP rockets” at the black market.

Jarmen Kell:

This unit is the perfect answer to USA’s Colonel Burton. He has the abilities of the sniper and can denote buildings through his remote controlled bomb. You can use him to snipe infantry units as well as vehicle drivers and later steal them. But, his weakness is the slow refill time of his sniper rifle. One can easily eliminate Jarmen Kell with the help of anti-stealth units. But, he can hide inside buildings and take out all infantry units. To make things difficult, the building does not change to the GLA team color, but once you locate Jarmen Kell, you can force him to evacuate by throwing flash bang grenades.

Hijacker:

Hijackers are one of the most utility units of the GLA faction and so can be tactically employed to cause greater damage. They are mainly used to steal assault and general enemy vehicles. You can use them to capture enemy vehicles having first level veteran status. You can also hijack enemy dozers, build their structures and units and create havoc on them with their own structures. To unlock the hijacker, you will have to build palace, barracks and spend three general points. Quite a hard work to create this unique unit, but worth the price!

Angry Mob:

Angry mob is generally a group of specially created units that can cause maximum damage to armored vehicles. They are generally created in groups. They can be unlocked after building the Palace. They have the most unique weapons including stones, Molotov cocktails and can be upgraded with firearms after researching “arm the mob” at the palace.

While they are not the best of command and conquer: generals tactics to employ against USA pathfinders and Chinese Gatling tanks, they can cause serious damage to tanks and enemy structures. Use at least 4-5 upgraded mobs against enemy buildings and vehicles. They can also be a great option for defending key GLA structures.

Command and Conquer: Generals Tactics and Strategies for GLA Armored Vehicles

Command and Conquer Generals Tactics for GLA Marauder

Marauder:

The Marauder is one of prime GLA armored vehicles. With its increased range, accuracy and good armor the Marauder can cause great damage to your opponent’s vehicles and units. It has features similar to the scorpion. You can upgrade using scraps of enemy units and use it to fire anthrax weapons from its projectiles. Use at least 6-7 marauders along with other units while planning an attack on your opponents. The rest upgrades are similar to the Scorpion.

Scorpion:

The scorpion may be the weakest armored vehicle of the GLA, but once it is upgraded with “scorpion rockets”, it can cause serious destruction to enemy vehicles and infantry. Scorpion upgrades are mainly available at the arms dealer structure, the palace and the black market. To upgrade its fire power research the scorpion rockets at the arms dealer, but if you want to upgrade it with deadly anthrax, then research “toxin shells”.

Scorpion GLA Armored Vehicle

Anthrax attacks can inflict serious damage to the opponent’s infantry units. You can also enhance the damages by researching “anthrax beta” at the palace. When battling against enemy units, use at least 7-8 upgraded Scorpions to get excellent damage results.

Technical:

Playing as GLA ensures you have excellent Command and Conquer: Generals tactics and strategies up your sleeves. Most GLA vehicles are very resourceful. The technical is the best example of a cheap, resourceful, yet destructive GLA vehicle. It can serve as an excellent vehicle transport for infantry, terrorists and hijackers. Put some of them inside and drop them on the enemy zone to make your fight easier.

GLA Technical

A good example of its resourcefulness is its ability to upgrade its firepower by stealing scrap of destroyed enemy vehicles. Just run over the scraps of two destroyed vehicles and see its firepower change from machine gun to missile attacks.

Bomb Truck:

Using bomb trucks can be a better strategy than terrorists because of their deceptive nature. As the name suggests, bomb trucks are loaded with explosives and chemical weapons. You can employ multiple tactics with these expensive units. Use them silently to sneak inside enemy base and run over a cluster of vehicles. You can also use them to sneak into unguarded enemy structures.

Quad Cannon:

The quad cannon can be used as a good defensive unit against light armored vehicles and infantry. But, it is very weak against heavy armored vehicles and air units. Always have a group of 5 or 6 quad cannons to take out any nuisance infantry units. You can increase its damage power by 25 percent by researching AP bullets at the black market.

Rocket Buggy:

Rocket Buggies are fast, accurate, but have slow reload times. The best tactic is to use 3-4 rocket buggies to shoot and quickly hide them beyond the reach of enemy units. When it reloads, attack your opponents again. Using its speed and heavy fire power can be the perfect strategy against your opponents.

Toxin Tractor:

This unit spurts green toxins at enemy units and can be very effective against light infantry units. You can eliminate your opponents infantry garrisoned in civilian buildings. But, always support it with other units and make sure they are far off against heavy armor.

Scud Launcher:

The scud launcher is GLA’s artillery weapon that can fire scud missiles from a good distance. It has two types of fire power—anthrax warheads and explosives. When playing skirmish battles in Command and Conquer: Generals, use the scud launcher’s explosives against enemy structures and warheads on infantry and vehicles. Make sure your launchers are protected with RPG troopers and marauders as they are very vulnerable against enemy armors.

Because they can bombard from a good distance make sure you place them at strategic isolated areas near enemy base camp.

Command and Conquer: Generals Tactics for China Infantry and Commando Units

While there are a good number of heavy armored vehicles, the key units are the tank hunters and infantry that can turn the tide. But, if you use hackers and the elite Black lotus along with the troops, then victory is imminent. The hackers and Black lotus can sneak in and destroy enemy buildings and immobile vehicles. They also have a unique internet hacking ability to gather black money.

Among many Chinese armored vehicles, the overlord tank is the strongest. A small group of such tanks can devastate any enemy expansion and prove their defense futile. More secrets, features and strategy of each Chinese unit can be found in this Command and Conquer: Generals Tactics guide:

Red Guard:

Red Guard China Strategy Guide

The basic infantry unit of China, the Red Guard infantry can be very effective if used in large groups. These are very cheap because two infantry are produced at the price of one. Clicking on one automatically selects both Red Guards. Use them against light armored vehicles and enemy infantry.

Just like the GLA rebels and the USA Rangers, the Chinese troops can capture buildings. You can enhance their armor and fire power by using one General point or researching nationalism at the China propaganda center.

Black Lotus:

A special commando of the China faction, Black Lotus has multi-abilities such as capturing enemy structures, using stealth, immobilizing enemy vehicles and stealing, or rather hacking cash from enemy supply stashes.

Black Lotus China

Black Lotus is expensive than a hacker and equally vulnerable to anti-stealth units. Furthermore, she can be created only once, so employ her unique abilities wisely. Guide her undetected and capture buildings to sell them. You can also make her steal supplies, but try not to disable a vehicle when it is protected by other troops. Disabling a vehicle takes time and if she is detected by anti-stealth units then it will take seconds to get her killed.

Hackers:

They can inflict heavy damage if used cleverly. If you have a group of hackers, disperse them to avoid quick death from enemy vehicles. Hide them behind bushes or enemy buildings. When the time is right destroy the enemy buildings silently.

One of the best tactics is to produce a large group of hackers. They will not be effective against enemy structures but also help you rake in additional cash. Create 6-7 hackers and see how additional funds flow in automatically, courtesy of their web hack abilities. Remember that hackers are very vulnerable to enemy troops, even a simple infantry unit can take them out.

Tank Hunter:

Chinese Tank Hunter

This unit is very different from USA or GLA anti-tank infantry units. It not only destroys aircraft and vehicles, but also uses its special TNT ability to defend against an armored unit. First, click on tank hunter select the TNT icon and then click on the armored unit to set a time bomb. The armored unit will blow before approaching near your base.

Tank hunters must be used in large groups to eliminate a squad of tanks. Make sure there’s a fair distance to avoid enemy vehicles running over your anti-tank units. These units are excellent way to make your Command and Conquer: Generals tactics more effective. Just garrison them inside civilian buildings and towers to defend your supply depots and see them fire missiles automatically on any incoming units.

Command and Conquer: Generals Tactics for China Armored Vehicles

Battlemaster:

China Battlemaster

Battlemasters are basic tank units that effective against enemy tanks and vehicles, if employed in large numbers. When you create these units, always upgrade them with uranium shells and nuclear tanks technology to make them 25 percent stronger and accurate. With these two upgrades, even a small group can wreak havoc against enemy vehicles. The nuclear tanks technology can be researched at the nuclear missile silo. Avoid any infantry and anti-tank confrontations.

Gatling Tank:

Gatling tanks can be an excellent option for killing infantry within seconds. They can be used against anti-tank infantry, terrorists and the GLA angry mobs. A Gatling tank can even destroy light vehicles such as the technical and Humvee.

Command and Conquer: Generals Tactics for Gattling Tanks

Creating a group of 5 or 7 Gatling tanks and sending them early can be an effective initial attack. The tank can also be effective against rival faction’s air units including Chinooks etc. To increase the firing capability of the Gatling tank, research “chain guns” at the war factory. Building a sizable number of Gatling tanks, scorpions and battlemasters and sending them early can be good enough to inflict initial damage.

Dragon Tank:

This tank can fry infantry troops within seconds. It is a type of a flame tank generally seen in most Command and Conquer games. Use them to kill infantry troops only and try to avoid any enemy vehicles when engaged in a battle. Also, do not try to use this against the GLA angry mob as their Molotov cocktails can destroy it within seconds.

The Dragon Tank has a fire wall ability that can kill large numbers of enemy soldiers. Click on a group of dragon tanks and then click on Fire Wall to get the best results.

Nuke Cannon:

A Nuke cannon is effective against a large group of enemy units and structures. Its long range projectile fires a tiny nuke warhead very accurately. Since it is very expensive, create only two and place them with other troops including anti-stealth units and anti-aircraft units. When it fires, the destruction inflicted can cause serious damage to the target as well as nearby structures since radiation stays on for quite a long time. For unlocking this deadly vehicle, you will have to spend a “generals” point and then build a propaganda center.

Overlord Tank:

This is one of the strongest armored vehicles, but very costly. It can not only destroy enemy vehicles with its powerful turret, but also trample any enemy tank comings its way. A squad of 5 overlord tanks has the capability to destroy the entire expansion of enemy base, if used with caution and prudence. Build 5 or 6 tanks and upgrade with a bunker and a Gatling cannon. Select all tanks and click on both the Gatling cannon and bunker icons. You can then garrison infantry to provide extra firepower and use its Gatling gun to rip through enemy infantry.

MiG:

The only air craft unit of the China faction, MiG is very useful to support ground troops or defend friendly base. But it’s vulnerable to anti-tank units and anti aircraft artillery. Create 2-3 MiGs and guard friendly structures and barrack. You can increase their fire power by researching the black napalm technology at the China war factory.
