Overview

Enter the supernatural civilization of Atlantis in order to save the world. This will not be an easy task. Atlantis has been a lost society for ages. The truth of it’s location is buried deep with myths and ancient legends. Players must globe-trot across the planet searching various wonders of the world like the great Pyramids of Egypt to unmask clues that could lead to Atlantis. The journey will not be a solitary one. You control up to eight adventurers in addition to your main character. Atlantica Online is a riveting MMORPG from the creative developers at Korean based Ndoors. They added a surprisingly different twist to the typical MMO through the use of a turn-based combat system resembling the popular Final Fantasy games.

Gameplay (4 out of 5)

After you’ve selected your avatar character the game begins with a dream sequence which acts as a tutorial. A story is told of your Atlantis heritage. You’re introduced to three charming women who represent logic, passion, and emotion. Instructions on how to manuver in the world, hire mercenaries, and fight in battles are given. Once the dream world is completed players can pick from five defined entry zones to begin their quest.

You’re armed with a mini-map with objectives marked. There is also an auto-move feature that guides your character into their next pursuit. As a MMO game the help required option lets you ask a question to people in the game. The other online players reply back through an instant message similar to Yahoo Messenger. A reward is given every time an individual answers another fellow gamer’s question. So, there’s always someone willing to offer assistance. Atlantica Online has an in-game forum that you can use to post announcements about recruiting or particular items you wish to sell. The price to post is 1,000 gold. It’s a fun extra feature if you want to splurge.

There is an option that permits players to not only hire mercenaries but name them as well. Swordsman, Spearman, and the Archer are the three basic types of possible mercenaries at your disposal. Players have control of their position in battle. The combat system is completely turn based in which every turn allows a restricted amount of time. Fierce battles are fast-paced. During the game you’re given four chances to loot a dead body before it vanishes or is resurrected by your adversary.

Atlantica Online is free to play. Players are required to purchase certain items such as teleportation scrolls. The game uses gold coins (Gcoins) for transactions. $1 is the equivalent to 100 gold coins. They also have a variety of packages with these items and licenses that you can buy for more convenience.

Graphics & Sound (4 out of 5)

The graphics of Atlantica Online reminded me of Second-Life and other virtual worlds. It looks fantastic - very Anime 3D like. The character creation simulation seemed extremely futuristic. The vivid intricate attention to details makes this online fantasy world worth re-visiting over and over again. You almost get lost in the cinematic visuals. The musical scores of the game sets the mood for adventure. Nothing too fancy, just typical fantasy MMORPG sound effects.

System Requirements:

The system requirements for Atlantica Online include a Pentium 4, 1 Ghz or better, 512MB RAM, 64MB Graphic Memory, 5 GB free disk space, and DirectX 9.0. For more comfort and ease I recommend using a Logitech gamepad. Some people may prefer using a PC gaming keyboard instead. It’s totally up to you.

Overall Rating (4 out of 5)

Atlantica Online is a slightly unique version of a MMORPG and worth a try. It’s a breathtakingly beautiful virtual world where you can explore strange lands, fight in large scale battles, or form your own nation. There is even an option available where you can receive gifts from other online players. Anyone who likes Final Fantasy will love entering the world of Atlantis. I think this is an excellent game.
