    Starcraft 2 Medivac - Introduction

Our indepth guide to the Terran race in Starcraft 2 multiplayer continues with a look at the Medivac unit.

There's always a temptation in an RTS, especially with a side whose units are relatively cheap like the Terran faction in Starcraft 2, to simply keep piling units into the breach, hoping that production and sheer weight of numbers will eventually overcome. The master SC2 player, though, knows that every single unit can be vital, and doesn't like to pointlessly fritter them away. For the Terrans, the Medivac therefore plays an important role - not only is it great for dropping squads in behind enemy lines, but its healing capabilities means you can keep your units in the field for longer. In this article, we'll show you how to use the Medivac to prolong your troops lives, with a full rundown of its stats and Abilities, as well as strategy advice on deploying it against all three Starcraft 2 races.

Starcraft 2 Medivac Strategy, Tips and Tricks

    Starcraft 2 Medivac Vulnerable To:

    Terran vs Terran

While the Medivac has little or no offensive capabilities, it remains a vital part of any Terran force, both in its role as a medical center and as a mobile troop transport. Against Terran opposition, give your Medivacs a covering wing of Vikings to ward off aerial attack from your enemy's air units. If using it to dropship troops into an opponent's base for a raid, make sure to have thoroughly scouted the area beforehand - Terran building units such as Missile Turrets will give you a hot reception, while the Sensor Tower may give away your plans long before you get in range.

    Terran vs Protoss

Again, aerial units like the Phoenix and the Void Ray are the prime threat to Medivacs, so provide them with adequate air support to defend against these menaces. Use the Medivac in a support role for Marines and Marauders with the Stimpack Upgrade, buffing their helath back up and allowing them to repeatedly make use of the Ability. High Templar's will cast Feedback to suck the Energy out of Medivacs and bring them down, while Stalkers will try to use Blink to entrap them.

    Terran vs Zerg

If using Medivacs to drop into a Zerg base, negotiate a way round any Spore Colonies present to minimize initial losses, and fend off Mutalisk attack with a complement of Vikings. Spine Crawlers can make the drop location itself quite nasty, while Hydralisks touting the Grooved Spines Upgrade make a good counter.

Clever deployment of the Starcraft 2 Medivac can enable even small squads of Marines and Marauders to take enemy territory and hold it for far longer than would normally be possible, allowing you to get the drop on your opponent and eat away at his vital resource fields. If needed, they can also get troops out of sticky situations to fight another day, and that may prove vital in a finely balanced Starcraft 2 multiplayer match on
