Finding Agatha

If you’ve done the Blood Ties quest, then you should have a marker at Meresti Trainyard. This is the best place to start. Start at the middle and move to the northeast. It isn’t very far away, so keep your eyes open for a raised section of rocks. Just follow this ridge and watch for a rope bridge. This is your goal. You should be able to find a break in the rocks to climb up and walk over to the bridge. Her house is through a narrow little pass.

You need to find a specialty violin that should have survived the war. It’s called the Soil Stradivarius and it’s inside Vault 92. She doesn’t know where that is though, so we have a bit of searching to do. Technically you should go downtown and fight your way past the robot sentries at Vault-Tec Headquarters. You can then get all of the local vault locations added to your map. This is a little pointless though. There’s no benefit and it’s a fairly annoying fight against a lot of robots.

Vault 92

You can just go to Vault 92. It’s in the top right corner of the map. Consult the picture for a better idea of where it is. You just need to get inside with a good weapon. There a large number of bloatflies and tough mirelurk inside. Just remember to shoot them in the face when they rear up to attack.

The entire vault is one large maze. There’s a few ways to get to the spot we need to go. The ultimate end is the sound testing area and the lab at the bottom. From the start, there are 3 possible directions. You can take the route to the left and move forward and down. You’ll have to lockpick a few doors though. I had no trouble taking the unmarked route to the right. Just move forward and get to the door marked as the reactor. Go down and move through the dark sludge. It has minor radiation throughout along with some mirelurks along the way. Just fire and move quickly until you pop out by the sound testing area. Go down and kill a few mirelurk kings who should be around. You’ll know you’re in the right spot when you find a special intersection.

There are some jukeboxes to the right, a locked armory in front, and a path to the left. Go to the left to end up in an odd square area. Go to the left to find the office area. Use the computer to open up the studio. You can then walk right into the recording room by going down the other path. The Soil Stradivarius is on the table.

Sweet Music

This is just the first part though. The real reward for this quest requires us to go above and beyond. We need a book of sheet music to get the best one. You might have found this somewhere else. There are 5 other books, but we’re already here so lets get this one.

Fallout 3 - Agatha’s Song - The Sheet Music Book

Go back out to the atrium and look for the entrance to the living quarters on the ground floor. We need to get to the bathroom in the men’s dorm. Move along the corridors. You should be in the women’s area of the dormitory first. While you’re here, keep an eye out for a terminal in the women’s dorm area. You can hack the terminal and do a “noise flush” to kill all of the mirelurks in the dorm. If you’re tired of fighting them, then do it. There’s a lot of them up here, so it’s usually a good idea.

Once you make it over to the men’s side, you need to go to the bathroom in the back right corner. The book of sheet music is laying behind a toilet on the floor. Pick it up and then follow the arrows back out of Vault 92.

Agatha will thank you for the Soil Stradivarius. Giving this to her will open up her radio channel across the wasteland. I guess it’s good if you want to listen to the violin while you play. We’re mainly doing this for the second reward though. As a side note, you can sell to the violin to a few people, but that’s a terrible idea.

Talk to her again and tell her that you found something interesting. She’ll take the sheet music and thank you, but state that she doesn’t have much for a reward. Do not be a hero! Politely say that anything she has will be fine. She’ll offer you her husband’s old magnum, Blackhawk. This is one of the best weapons in the game. It’s very strong and has absolutely no recoil. It’s basically a stronger version of Lincoln’s Repeater. Congratulations, you’re done.
