Choosing the top 3 weapons from the vast arsenal available in Call of Duty: World at War is a difficult task. There are so many and all are better than others in many different regards and are intended for different uses. For the purposes of this article we will look at three main categories of weapons that you’ll find in Call of Duty: World at War; long range, medium range and short range.
The long range weapons have either a love or hate relationship in the online community. Some love the thrill of silently picking off the enemy while others disdain those roof lurking snipers. Choosing the best long range weapon in COD:WAW was not easy, but after hours of testing and critique it has to be the PTRS-41. This Russian sniper weapon is the only gun in the game where it kills with one shot. From long distances, this sniper can disable panzer tanks with four direct hits and can easily slice through limbs of fellow players at any range. The aim is unsteady while standing but one in the prone position and out of sight, the PTRS-41 can be extremely lethal. So, for my pick for long range weapons in Call of Duty: World at War, it has to be the PTRS-41.
I had the same conundrum choosing a best medium range weapon in Call of Duty: World at War. I had choices such as the American bazooka, M1 Garand, SVT-40 or the STG-44. After looking at all of these COD weapons carefully, it took me a bit to come to a decision here. Finally, I chose the best combination of rate of fire, damage, accuracy and availability. The Gewehr 43. This weapon has little recoil and a high rate of fire when the trigger is pulled repeatedly in Call of Duty. It’s also very accurate with good sites to position directly on the enemy. 2-3 shots later and he’ll be lying fact down in the dirt. It’s also easily available to pick up off the ground in online play and easy to get to grips with unlike other weapons such as the M1 of the STG. So, for the medium range weapon pick in Call of Duty: World at War, I will have to go with the Gewehr 43.
Unlike my previous two decisions, this one was always clear to me in COD. Even though I have great options such as the Magnum or the MP40 that are lethal at short range, I chose the PPSh-41. This soviet sub-machine gun has a hug magazine capacity of 71 and has an astounding rate of fire in game. All you have to do is align the sites on the enemy and let of a quick 2-second burst and he’s down. While it’s a little more sparse on the ground than the MP40 you should be able to stay alive long enough with it to use up all your bullets! So, for my pick for the best short range weapon in Call of Duty: World at War, I’m going with the PPSh-41.
So that’s it. I’m expecting a backlash of angry gamers claiming their favourite weapon is the best but I ask you to please consider its real merits before posting hate comments. Thanks!
