CoD5 Operations Challenges

Call of Duty: World at War, also known as Call of Duty 5, employs a Rank and Challenge system that you might compare to the character leveling system in a role playing game. The second set of challenges is called Operations and mainly focus on the number of times you are on the winning side of a match. Completing these will help you earn experience points toward increasing your rank and unlocking better weapons and accessories, plus some new challenges.

Free-for-All Victor I-III – Place in the Top 3 in 1, 5, and 15 Free-For-All Matches.

The free-for-all games are where every man is for himself and there are no teams. This means everybody is a target. These games tend to be fast and chaotic, but are a good way to get a bunch of experience points. Landing in the top 3 can be tough, but you’ll get it eventually.

Team Player I-III – Win 5, 15, and 30 Team Deathmatch Matches.

Team Deathmatch seems to be the most popular online game type on CoD5. This is where you have two groups of armies and you fight each other for the most number of kills.

Headquarters Victor I-III – Win 5, 15, and 30 Headquarters Matches.

The HQ matches are cool in that you have bases that randomly pop up around the map, so you have to lock them down for your team.

Domination Victor I-III – Win 5, 15, and 30 Domination Matches.

The Domination matches are sort of like HQ, except the bases are always in the same place throughout the map. You dominate the other team by taking over all their bases and holding them. I’ve found this match type to be fairly unpopular online because people camp the bases.

Sabotage Victor I-III – Win 5, 20, and 50 Sabotage Matches.

Sabotage matches play sort of like a variant on Capture the Flag, except you are transporting bombs instead of flags. These matches can be tough due to the amount of time it takes to plant and/or diffuse a bomb.

War Victor I-III – Win 5, 15, and 30 War Matches.

A War match is a lot like Domination in that you have to capture bases, but it alternates between which base you must capture and you get perks in mid-game for how fast a flag can be recaptured. It goes back and forth a lot more, but is equally fun.

Capture the Flag Victor I-III – Win 5, 15, and 30 Capture the Flag Matches.

These matches are crazy and fun because you have to run into an enemy base, grab their flag, then carry it all the way back to your own flag base to get the capture point for your team. However, you don’t get the point if the enemy also has your flag. This type match works best when you use teamwork to cover the flag carrier.

CoD5 Operations Challenges (cont’d)

Search and Destroy Victor I-III – Win 5, 15, and 30 Search and Destroy Matches.

Search and Destroy matches can be both fun and irritating because you only get one life per round. This means if you get shot early on, you may have to wait 3 or 4 minutes before you can play again. I tend to avoid these type matches.

Hardcore Team Player I-III – Win 5, 15, and 30 Hardcore Team Deathmatch Matches.

I’ve found that most of the servers online are hardcore. This is where you play without sights or ammo amount showing up in the HUD, so you really have to know what you are doing. Not being able to keep track of ammo or have floating crosshairs on the screen actually makes the game a little more realistic, but also more difficult. Once you get comfortable with a particular weapon, you’ll learn where it shoots without even having to aim.

MVP Team Deathmatch – Win a Team Deathmatch with the highest score.

Look at it this way – In every match, somebody is going to be first place. Sooner or later, hopefully, it will be you.

MVP Team Hardcore – Win a Team Hardcore with the highest score.

Same as above.

Bomb Down – Kill the bomb carrier in either a Sabotage or Search and Destroy match.

Since the bomb carrier gets labeled like a flag carrier, this one is really easy. Just watch your map to see where they are.

Bomb Defender – Kill a bomb defuser in either a Sabotage or Search and Destroy match.

This one is almost too easy since the defuser is briefly defenseless while trying to defuse the bomb. You can always toss a grenade their way, too.

Bomb Planter – Kill the bomb planter in either a Sabotage or Search and Destroy match.

Just like killing the bomb defuser, this one is very easy.

Last Man Standing – Be the last man standing in a Search and Destroy match.

If you play a sniper and hang back while the others rush forward, you’ll increase your chances of getting this one. You could always try to find some place to hide, too.

Hero – Defuse a bomb in Sabotage or Search and Destroy.

It’s a lot harder than it sounds, but it does help your team if you can pull it off. It helps to have someone cover you while you do your work.

War Hero – Kill 1 or more enemies in the act of capturing your last flag, then help recapture it for your team.

When an enemy is trying to capture your flag, you’ll hear someone yell out “We’re losing B” or whatever letter corresponds with the flag. When you hear this, just toss a grenade toward the flag and chances are it will get whoever is trying to capture it. On top of that, it’ll make whoever is playing the enemy pretty mad, which is always fun.
