Ultimate Guide to World of Warcraft Factions and Reputations

Make sure to check out the Ultimate Guide to World of Warcraft factions. You can find detailed guides on how to raise reputation, obtain rewards, and more with every major faction in World of Warcraft (WoW). The Kirin Tor serves as the central faction for Horde and Alliance players in Wrath of the Lich King. They watch over the machinations of the Lich King in the arctic lands of Northrend and fend off the Malygos’s attacks against the city.

Guide to the Kirin Tor Faction

The Violet Eye was the first Kirin Tor faction that Blizzard introduced in World of Warcraft: the Burning Crusade. The ruins of Dalaran and the mages who once occupied the kingdom can still be seen roaming through the zones where the proud city once stood before it was destroyed by Arthas, the former prince of Lordaeron.

The Wrath of the Lich King expansion added several WoW factions, including the Knights of the Ebon Blade and the Kirin Tor, and now allows players to participate in helping the mage kings of Dalaran turn back the Scourge’s rising tide.

The mages carefully left the ruins in the Alterac Mountains and their foothills, but moved the city to the skies above Northrend when the Lich King and his undead army once again became active. Dalaran serves as the central hub for World of Warcraft players while adventuring in the Northern Continent. Raising any World of Warcraft faction to exalted level gives a player a 20% discount when buying from a vendor of that faction, but for the higher level factions, it also also gives characters the abilities to buy high-level trade skill recipes and equipment upgrades from the faction’s quartermaster.

Who or What is the Kirin Tor?

The mages who rule Dalaran will likely be the one of the first factions a player encounters when he or she reaches Northrend’s icy shores. The path to exaltation with the Kirin Tor starts on the Amber Ledge, located in the Borean Tundra zone. The remaining quests for this faction can be picked up in Dalaran and in other Northrend zones by speaking to members of the Kirin Tor.

Archmage Timear

Completing quests does not cause one to earn exalted status. Fortunately, the status can be raised once all the quests are completed by doing the repeatable daily quests and turning in Badges of Commendation. Player characters earn the Badges of Commendation by completing the level 80 daily dungeon quests given by Archmage Timear in Dalaran. There are also daily cooking and jewel crafting quests that give 150 points and 25 points respectively with the Kirin Tor.

The chain of non-repeatable quests should get a player halfway through the honored level before he should start working on Wrath of the Lich King daily quests.

The quests listed above should be enough to get the player past the neutral status and close to honored or above. A player who obtains a Tabard of the Kirin Tor also gains additional reputation when adventuring in Level 80 dungeons. He also gains access to all the items that the faction quartermaster in Dalran sells.

Many of these quests, although by no means all of the Kirin Tor faction quests, can be found in Dalaran. The rest are scattered throughout the zones of Northrend. (Wintergrasp, the open PvP zone is a zone with very few quests for any faction. The reasons for this are obvious.)

Further information on quests tied to factions can be found on the Thottbot, WoW Wiki and WoW Head web sites. The repetition of daily quests can help the player get to exalted. The Kirin Tor tabard helps the player with the faction grind for World of Warcraft characters who spend a lot of time running through Northrend instances.

The Kirin Tor will remain active in the Burning Crusade and be a major part of Azeroth, but its role will diminish with the release of Cataclysm.
