Races in Morrowind, part 2

The Argonian

The Argonians are reptilian creatures who are native of the Black Marsh region, in south-eastern Tamriel. The Black Marsh, also known as Argonia, is a swampy region with a tropical climate and related flora and fauna. Sentient trees known as Hist grow in the region, as other types of poisonous and wild plants. The Argonian race has adapted to this type of climate and shows appropriate characteristics, such as amphibian somatic traits.

Being the dwellers of the swamps, they have gained immunity to diseases which infest the region, and are of sturdy constitution. They are natural survivors, equally at home in either water or land, which makes them suited to a variety of professions and playing styles. Some prefer stealth and are well versed in the arcane arts, whilst others are war generals or strategists working with the forces of the Empire.

You will find that many of this race have been enslaved, since they show potential in many areas and are skilled survivors in a variety of environments. Along with the Khajit race, they provide labour in farm lands or for noble patrons, in areas where the practice of slavery and its trade are considered legal. In most of Tamriel this has been abolished and outlawed, but there are some Dunmeri (natives of the land) who have been allowed to keep slaves as part of their tradition.

Attributes, Skill and Abilities

The main attributes of this race are their high Intelligence for females, which makes them good magic users, and their incredible Speed and Agility. This makes the males good hunters, some thieves or acrobats, and the females good mages with other characteristics such as close-combat or diplomacy (Willpower 40).

The Athletic Skill has the highest modifier, which is +15 points making them ideal at climbing, jumping and related activities. Some schools of magic offer a +5 bonus, such as Mysticism or Illusion, and they also have a +5 bonus on the Spear skill.

Special Abilities: Water Breathing (120 on self). A high resistance to poison (100%) and a high resistance to Common Diseases (75%)

Playing the Argonian

Having abilities and skills in different areas of the game, there are different possibilities when choosing and Argonian. They make the best Acrobats, but can also be fighters or magic users, particularly females. You could also play an Assassin with this race, since they offer good Stealth and Speed bonuses, and, should you decide to fight in the front-line, they show promise with spear-like weapons.
