Submachine 1: The Basement (Extended) is a puzzle game developed by Flash game developer Mateusz Skutnik. Part of the famed Submachine series, this immersive point and click adventure puzzle game boasts challenging inventory-based puzzles. The first game of the “submerged machine” series was launched in October 2005 and since then 6 more games were released in the main series.

The Extended version of the first game boasts an additional puzzle where you can find a Wisdom gem. This version also includes more rooms, two different endings and a reset button. The objective of the game is to collect all 4 tiles and use them on a circular mechanism to open a hidden door, which will take to the exit door. This Submachine 1 Extended walkthrough will provide hints and tips to solve various inventory-based puzzles and will also teach how to access the Wisdom gem.

How to Collect the Coin and the Fuse?

Click on the ladder to go up. Click to pull down the switch. Go down.

Click on the door to your left -> left -> left -> Up. Click on the spare valve behind 4 pipes. Click to pull down the switch.

Go down. Click the door to your right -> right -> Click on the ladder to go down. Click the door to your left, and then click the ladder to go down. Click to collect the Coin.

Now go up -> click the door to your right. Click on the lighthouse portrait to view.

Go down. Click to pull down switch and click the diary lying on the floor. Once the diary shows up in the inventory, Click on it to read.

Click the ladder to go down. Click the door to your left hand side.

Click on the metal box to enlarge. You will notice 4 buttons and above each button is the digit 0. When you press a button, the digit above changes from 0 to 1, then 2, 3 up to the digit 9.

In your inventory, click on the coin and note down the 4 digits printed at the top portion of the coin. The 4 digits are random numbers and may not be the same for all players. My coin has digits 5148 etched, and maybe your coin won’t have these numbers printed. Whatever be the digits on your coin, note them down on a piece of paper and click the coin again.

Enter the numbers on the metal box by clicking those four buttons. Example: The numbers printed on my coin were 5 1 4 8 and so I will press the first button (from the left) 5 times, second button one time, third button 4 times and then press the last button 8 times to enter these numbers.

After entering the numbers, click on the metal box to ext and then click on the big wooden box. Click to collect the fuse.

Tile D (4 Bells Puzzle)

After collecting the fuse, click the door to your right -> right. You will find 4 bells and below them are 4 small cubes. In this puzzle, the objective is to click on each bell to make all cubes rise up in the air. You can randomly click on each bell and soon you will find all blocks rise in the air. Here’s the spoiler pattern for this bell puzzle:

Click the second bell, then the third, fourth, then click the first and finally click the third bell once again to make all 4 cubes rise up in the air.

You will then notice a small square etched on the box. Click the square and click to collect Tile D. This tile will be later used on another puzzle once all four tiles are collected.

Tile B (Grandfather Clock Puzzle)

Click the door to exit the Bell puzzle room. In the next room, you will see a blue plate with three screws. On a piece of paper, note down the pattern of the screws.

Now click the ladder to go up. Click the ladder to go up. Click the door to your left; you will enter a room equipped with a strange mechanism. You will find three screws below three cylinders. Replicate the sequence pattern of the three screws that you’ve noted down by clicking on these screws.

Click the door to your right. Go up by clicking the ladder. Click the door to your left. Drag and drop the valve (wheel) on to the hole in the pipe and click on the valve.

Click right. Click the ladder to go down. Click the door to the right, go down. Drag and drop the fuse on to the empty slot in the blue plate.

Click the door to your right. Go down and you will enter a room that has a broken pipe and a strange violet-colored fluid is dripping from the pipe. Click on the small white pearl.

Now go up, click left. Click on the ladder to go up. Click the door to your left. Click the ladder to go up. Click left - > left. You will notice a grandfather clock with two ropes. The shorter rope has a missing pearl.

Drag and drop the small white pearl on to the shorter rope in the grandfather clock. Click and collect Tile B.

Tile C (Crystal Ball Puzzle)

After collecting Tile B, click the door to your right - > right -> right -> right. Click the switch of the big machine to activate the mechanism.

Click the left door to exit. Once again, click the left door. Go down and click the door to your right. Click the ladder to go down. Click the right door. Go Up. Have a look at the strange mechanism with a big glass ball. Inside is another tile (Tile C). Click to collect it.

Tile A (Spoon Puzzle)

Now go down. You will see an old radio. Just hover your mouse cursor over its right control (do not click) and wait for the drawer to open up completely. Click the drawer to collect the spoon.

Click left. Go up - > left -> up. Click the door to your right - > right. You will enter a room equipped with a big machine. Put the spoon (drag and drop) over the top of the two terminals to cause a short circuit.

You will hear a short buzz sound followed by the sound of an explosion. You will notice a small blue plate sliding down and inside is another tile (Tile A). Click to collect this tile.

The Circular Mechanism Puzzle

After collecting Tile A, click the door to your left - > left and enter the room with a circular plate attached to the wall. You will notice 4 triangular slots. Drag and drop each tile into the slot. Tile A will go to the first, Tile b to the second, Tile C to the third and Tile D will go to the fourth slot.

After inserting all tiles to the slot, the circular mechanism will rotate and after few seconds later you will see a secret door. Click on the door twice to move toward the elevator.

To your right, you will see two white buttons. Press the upper white button to go up.

Now, press the lower white button to open the elevator door.

You will then find two doors. Click the door to your left to exit this lighthouse. If you click the door to your right, you will be taken to the Submachine 2 screen.

How to Collect the Wisdom Gem?

Once you collect all 4 tiles, go back to the room where you found the coin. Do not place the 4 tiles on the circular mechanism, else you won’t have access to the Wisdom Gem.

Click the switch to activate the ladder located at the top floor. Go up. Click the door to your right. Go up. Click the door to your right.

Go up and you will see a ladder. Click on the ladder to go up. Click to collect the Wisdom Gem.

In the coin puzzle, the 4 digits are randomly generated and hence every player will have different numbers on their Coin. This also occurs for the three screw puzzle, the sequence is random and hence it will change every time you play the game.
