Your Evony Resources
In the MMO game Evony, your resources are very important to maintaining your city. Without enough resources being produced by your city, you cannot train troops, or build any buildings. You have five main resources including gold, food, wood, stone, and iron. When you click on the city icon at the top of your screen you will find the plots where you can build these resource buildings. To build these plots you also need population to make them work so be sure you have enough cottages to support your efforts. Each resources plot takes a certain number of citizens to work the plot and will produce resources constantly once the building is made. As you upgrade the resource plots more workers will be required, but you will produce more, and have a bigger surplus in which to draw from.
Resource Plots In The Game
Unlike many MMO games, the gold in Evony works differently. Gold is not used to purchase units or to maintain buildings. You use gold to research technologies in your academy and to buy extra resources in the marketplace. The only other use for gold is when you want to build a new city. While gold is not as important as some other resources, you will use lots of it to upgrade your technologies as the higher upgrades can be rather expensive. Gold as a resource rather than currency is very similar to Ikariam.
Food is used to maintain your armies while they are fighting battles and when they are stationed in your town. You can set the production rate in your town hall to produce more food and other resources if you need it. More advanced troops will eat more food and require more food to build. Your buildings will also require food to build, but once they are built, they don’t require food to maintain. You should build enough farms to meet your future food requirements. If you are running short, use the marketplace and buy some more, or contact your Alliance members.
Wood is by far the most important resource in Evony. You will run out of wood the most and it is needed in large quantities. Lumber mills should be your top priority after food and should be upgraded as soon as possible. Wood is also the resource that trades the highest on the market place so you can make extra gold by selling your excess wood. Building your wall fortifications and the walls themselves will use a large amount of wood, so plan ahead. Military units also consume wood when they are constructed in your barracks with advanced units consuming more.
All buildings require a certain amount of stone. This resource is not as important as wood and extra amounts can be sold. The only place you need stone in high volumes is in building construction. Once your buildings are done, it is used in some wall fortifications, and one advanced military unit, the catapult.
Iron is a little less important than wood, and is primarily used in building construction and troop training. Make sure you don’t neglect iron production or you won’t be able to make enough advanced troops. Have enough iron in reserve in case you are attacked so you can build and counter attack.
Building Upgrades and Academy
Your buildings require resources to upgrade and will consume all four resources, but not gold. Upgrades are expensive production wise so really plan your upgrade before you make them, or you will run out of resources. All technologies also require high levels of resources so pick and choose your technology upgrades according to the levels of resources you have remaining.

Resources From Battle
During a battle you may pillage resources from a player city and will be returned to your city with your army. Some of your military units can carry extra resources back with them, increasing your pillage amount.
Unlike other MMOs where a warehouse actually stores excess resources, your Evony warehouse works differently. It saves resources for you to rebuild your city if you are beaten in an attack. The higher the level of your warehouse the more resources you will have saved after an attack has taken place which you can use to train troops for a counterattack. The level of your resource buildings determines the amount you can hold, not your warehouse.

Use the marketplace to buy and sell the resources that you need. The price for each varies day to day depending upon demand. Each resource will take approximately thirty minutes to reach you once ordered. If your marketplace is upgraded you can do more transactions at one time.
How To Increase Production Levels
Besides upgrading your resources through building leveling you can increase your production in two ways. First, your academy can research production bonuses that will raise your resource production 10% per level. Resource technologies should be researched first so you are really increasing your production significantly.
Valleys and Production Bonuses
The second way you can get more resource production is to conquer a valley. On your map are valleys that have a level from one to nine. Each valley is controlled by either a player or NPC army. By conquering these valleys and holding them you will increase your production of resources for as long as you hold the valley. If your army is defeated, you lose the bonus. The level of bonus varies from level to level with small percentage increases as you conquer higher valley levels.
You can also purchase in the game shop a resource bonus which will raise your production levels 25% for 24 hours or 25% for seven days. You can also win these bonuses by using the amulet wheel located at the bottom left of the screen. You will get one free spin per day when you login or you can purchase game coins.
Build up your resource base before you engage in any type of combat. Use the upgrades from your academy to boost your production for a nice bonus. Continue to upgrade each resource plot until its level is high enough, and have enough workers to fill the spots. Upgrade your cottages if you need more workers. Use the marketplace if you are running low on resources, trade what you don’t need and ask your Alliance for assistance.
