Races in Morrowind. Part 10.
The Redguard
The Redguards are the most talented fighting race in all of Tamriel, due to their skills and abilities combined, and of course the base Attribute points. They originally hail from Hammerfell, a province situated in the western part of Tamriel, surrounded by the regions of Skyrim, High Rock and Cyrodiil. It is mostly arid terrain mostly consisting of desert and wasteland. However, the populated part of the region is a maritime province, and most of the region’s economy survives on sea-trading and related activities.
Redguards are typically adventurous in nature, since Hammerfell has constant port activity and is often visited by many different types of characters and merchants. As a race, they fare well in all kinds of activities mainly relating to combat, but they also have great speed and do well as scouts or martial empire guides. They are of a healthy constitution being resistant to many poisons and common diseases, and are ideally suited as soldiers and warriors.
Attributes, Skill and Abilities
The main attributes of the race are Strength and Endurance which start at 50 points and make a ‘hard-to-hit’ character. Other important attributes are Agility and Speed, which make for a quick character when fighting and needing to move about.
Main skills are the Long Blade skill which has a bonus of +15, and minor skills like Athletics, Axe, Blunt Weapon and Heavy Armor. This makes for an apt fighter and particularly with the Long Blade and Heavy Armor skills, a good soldier character with good Endurance, and resistant to poisons and other effects. Redguards which choose to play the more swashbuckling character, have Short Blade +5 and Medium Armor +5 skills.
Special Abilities: Fortify Agility, 50 points for 60secs on self. Fortify Endurance, Speed and Strength, all at 50 points for 60 seconds on self. This race has the ability to Resist Poison (75%) and Resist Common Disease (75%).
Playing the Redguard
This race is the fiercest in the empire, since you already start with very high values combined, in Strength, Endurance and the Long Blade skill. Such a build ensure a good amount of damage from early on in the character build. However, don’t forget that this race has a big emphasis on freewill and adventurous spirit, and with such values you can end up playing as just an explorer or free-roaming character.
