Terminator Salvation

While every great, high budget action movie normally comes with it’s own video game sooner or later, many game developers are crunched to get their games out around the same time as a movie’s release in today’s market. So, it was no surprise that Terminator Salvation’s video game would come out right around the time that the movie itself releases in theaters. Actually, for those really interested in the movie and game, the game will release on May 19th, while the movie won’t be out in theaters until May 21. So, you can get a sneak peek at the movie by playing the video game. The game will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, the PC, and even iPhone OS.

Story Line (5 out of 5)

Terminator Salvation is set in 2016 in L.A., and is supposed to be set between the time that Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and the movie Terminator Salvation take place. The game follows Barnes story line during this time, but gamers will be playing as the infamous John Connor. (For those of you Christian Bale lovers out there, the actor would not lend his famous voice to the game nor would he allow his face or likeness to be put on as John Connor either. So, you’ll have to live with a different looking and sounding Connor. But, other actors and actresses, like Rose McGowan, are fully in the game overall.) For those fans that have been keeping up with the latest series on tv, Terminator Salvation the video game will take you through the end of the series to the movie and help fill in gaps that you might be missing. For those that have not been following the series, the game will help you tie in the last movie and the upcoming one.

Here is a list of the main characters from the cast that will be lending their voices and likenesses to Terminator Salvation, the video game:

John Connor will be played by Gideon Emery

Blair Williams will be played by Moon Bloodgood

Barned will be played by Common

Angie Salter will be played by Rose McGowan

David Weston will be played by Sean Cory Cooper

Game Play (5 out of 5)

Being a third person shooter game, you will actually have to be on the move constantly, flanking, taking cover, and sizing up your enemies before you take action. You will be in battle with Skynet mobs from the new film and some new mobs that were degisned just for the game itself. The good thing about the game play that I am looking forward to is the dual player, split-screen that you’ll be able to play together to get to the end of the game. So, by cooperating with your friends or family, you’ll be able to make it through battling the machines to save yourself.

The Developer (5 out of 5)

Halcyon Company announced the Terminator Salvation video game on November 15, 2007 when it also announced Halcyon Games. Since the game had already been in development with GRIN and Halcyon before the film ever got started, it was easy to finish up the game before the movie released in theaters. There are plenty of top notch talent working on the game - both as artists and developers - so this should make the game even better overall.

Graphics (5 out of 5)

From the trailer and the screenshots that have been released so far, I would have to say that the graphics are high quality. The lines are clear, the detail is sharp, and I love how they have given the game a “gritty” look in certain areas to help enhance the feel while you are playing. You can see a few of the screenshots below to help you see what this game has in store for you visually.

Overall (5 out of 5)

Being a Terminator fan, I can’t wait for this newest game to come out. I do hope that it will help to tie everything together, as there is a gap in the movies and television series. But, I hope that it won’t be such a major part of the story line in game that fans that are not gamers will miss out.
