The Best Action Adventure PC Games for Beginners

Page content

If you’re looking for something fast-paced from your PC gaming, there are many games available that can fit the bill.

Action/Adventure games are normally a hybrid of other genres; first-person shooters and driving games often lend more than an occasional glance in this regard. This is perhaps why action/adventure games tend to be among the most popular between the more ‘generic’ PC gamer audience and appeal to a wider audience of gamer, rather than those entrenched into one genre.

If you’re a gamer looking to dip your toe into the waters of action/adventure games on the PC, then check out these games which rank among the best in the genre.

**
Gears Of War
**A console staple, sceptics suggested that it wouldn’t port satisfactorily onto the PC platform. However, those same sceptics were proved wrong when Gears Of War turned out to be a faultless conversion. Taking some elements from first-person shooters (although the perspective is third-person) and real-time strategy games, Gears Of War is an extremely competent and enjoyable romp let down only by some steep PC system requirements.
**
Max Payne 2
**Showing it’s age a little now in being almost five years old, but Max Payne 2 is one of those games that has stood the test of time in the face of some stiff competition. Although the storyline of the game is a little short, taking around ten hours to play the game in its entirety, Max Payne 2 is a gloriously short ‘Film Noir love story’ accompanied by enough bullets to make a Rambo film look like a family feature.
**
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
**Sam Fisher and the Splinter Cell franchise has been around a while, but in this installment, Ubisoft has developed an all-action stealth extravaganza. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory features some gorgeous visuals, especially in terms of lighting effects and environments, while tweaks to the single-player game make the action much slicker, while the addition of co-op mode means players can link up to play through the game as a team.
**
Fahrenheit
**In a twist of gameplaying convention, Fahrenheit – also called Indigo Prophecy – is a game that will have you twisting and turning in a brilliantly innovative story featuring multiple character control and inventive gameplay mechanics which tie in excellently with the action oncreen. Pitching the player as the villan, the player has to unravel whether or not they are a murderer in a game that features a soundtrack and voice acting of the highest quality, while the atmosphere is superb.

The above is only a very small sample of the many PC action and adventure games that are available. However as you might expect, you’ll find games in this genre to suit most tastes – from traditional point-and-click games to console-style stealth platformers.
