MMORPG Center

MMORPG Center is a massively multiplayer online games portal which brings you the latest news, reviews and guides on commercial and free MMORPG games. It is an attractive and easy to use website with a wealth of information and should be enough to satisfy most MMORPG junkies.

The front page features in depth articles, previews of upcoming titles and there’s a list of newly added content divided into news, articles and video categories. There are a few adverts on the site but they are relevant and clearly delineated so easy enough to ignore.

MMORPG News and Articles

The news section covers everything that’s going on in the world of MMORPG’s including announcements about upcoming releases, patches for existing games, content updates and notable changes in staff at the big developers and publishers.

There’s an articles section which highlights all the latest previews and reviews and also competitions, features and guides. These are broken down further in the lower links section which allows you to pinpoint what you are after.

Title Coverage and Community (3 out of 5)

Each title has it’s own page and every bit of content about that title is linked and divided into sections so fans of a particular game can see an overview, news and articles about the game, images and video files, any downloads that may available and FAQ’s as well as the link to the relevant forum board for discussion. There are loads of titles covered and the potential is there for MMORPG Center to be a valuable source of information about your favourite game but at the moment most titles have incomplete information and few have a dedicated FAQ or board.

Each game is given a review rating based on the site review. Users also have the option to rate the game themselves so you can see at a glance how popular it is and how it stacks up against the competition. In order to rate games you’ll need to register on the site but it is free and proves to be a quick and easy process.

The website also features a large forum which you can post on after registering. They are obviously still building a community because the forums are not massively busy.

Website Format (3 out of 5)

The basic format is reminiscent of big sites like GameSpot and IGN but since the focus is tighter here it should prove a little easier to find what you are after, assuming what you are after is an MMORPG. Features like forums and even user ratings require a big dedicated user community before they prove genuinely valuable and in that sense the site may struggle to compete with the big players. Still it is refreshingly light on adverts compared to the big sites mentioned and that alone makes it a welcome alternative.

Overall (4 out of 5)

The strength of the website is the fact it focuses on the MMORPG genre and the reviews are detailed and well written. There are also a lot of screenshots and videos so you can check out the game before buying and any news about the various titles is neatly collected. The passion of the staff definitely comes across, these guys are gamers and so there’s no doubt this website will grow over time and may well become a regular stop for fans of the MMORPG genre.
