Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is a classic RPG adventure video game for the PSP with memorable characters and a haunting story line combined with unconventional game play elements. Gamers who like a complex, extremely engaging, and delightfully satisfying RPG experience will love Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth.

A wonderful combination of challenge, complexity and maddening simplicity that is perfect for the masses to enjoy, the pace and game play elements create a nice sense of progression because every choice changes the direction and entertainment choices of the game.

Parts That Could be Improved (4 out of 5)

They didn’t provide enough save points, so Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth can be a difficult video game at times, and they definitely kept the same save points as in the earlier title, which was definitely a lost opportunity to make this RGP adventure almost a perfect experience.

The Graphical Picture (4 out of 5)

The graphical presentation of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is as sharp and bright as ever, with a color palette that’s a little on the dark side at times, but still creates nice lighting and shadow effects.

The visual effects are fast and visually attractive, especially the triggered chains of special attacks that are extremely satisfying to watch in all their glory.

The character animations are smooth and fast as they move about or execute attacks against opponents who are just as beautifully rendered as the main characters.

The sound track is wonderfully energetic at the appropriate times and slows down when necessary to set the mood for quieter or more thoughtful moments, a mixture of nice orchestrated and studio pieces that doesn’t always repeat.

The sound acting is as good as ever, with voices that have feeling and emotional content to get you involved in the action and characters.

The sound effects are sharp and satisfying in the combat sequences, with each special attack having a unique sound that makes is easily recognizable.

Playability (4 out of 5)

Valkyrie Profile is a complex, challenging, and involved RPG experience that you have to get involved with to play, with a deceptively simple appearance that hides an interior combination of simple pick-up-and-play combat and deep story telling that changes with your every choice. A highly addictive mixture of tough decisions, challenging combat, and engaging and satisfying dungeon exploration paced to keep the adrenalin flowing and the energy high. A steep learning curve in the beginning for new gamers to the franchise can often turn the occasional gamer away, but for those who stay the RGP experience is definitely one for the gods.

The playability of Lenneth never stops because you can play it over and over, every choice can take you down another path in the game, and the choices never stop. You can constantly tweak and increase your character’s array of skills and statistics to make them better suited for their part as ethereal soldiers.

Valkyrie Profile fanatics can often wait years to get their hands on a Tri-Ace classic and Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth will make them happy as a new born baby, and is definitely the game they were looking for. New gamers to the series are in for a real RPG adventure-treat if they can get beyond the learning curve, regimented pacing, and layers of detail that often prove too much for the casual gamer. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth can hold its own with the current crop of RPG adventure titles, with its in-depth story telling and fun pick-up-and-play action that makes it an interactive entertainment legend.
