Why Do You Want To Get These Icons?
The reason that you want to collect these secret icons is that when you collect all of the 20 Autobot icons, you will unlock the Generation 1 Optimus Prime and when you get all of the 20 Deceptecon icons, you'll unlock the Generation 1 Megatron. If you get all 40 of these secret icons as you are playing Transformers, you will get the "Pride of Bumblebee" Acheivement. Now, these secret icons are basically the same for every game system, with the exception of the "Pride of Bumblebee" Acheivement, which is only on the Xbox 360 game.

What Is The Difference In The Generation 1 Characters?
When it comes to the differences in the Generation 1 characters, there are several from the normal characters that you can choose in the game. For example, the Generation 1 characters that you can unlock are actual characters that are replicas of the first generation cartoons of both Optimus Prime and Megatron - not just repaints like you can get with the cheat codes.
You have to get all of the secret icons in Transformers the video game to unlock these toons. Once you do, you will then be able to turn on these characters in the Bonus Features area of the main menu of the game. From there, you can pick your level that you want to play these characters in.
