Starcraft 2 Hellion Strategy, Tips and Tricks

Starcraft 2 Hellion

Strong Against:

Vulnerable To:

Terran vs Terran

Hellions are fantastic units for quick attacks upon concentrations of opposing Zealots, especially at choke points, but remember to leave yourself enough leeway to diappear off into the distance if anything heavier approaches. Marauders’ Concussive Shells will eliminate the Hellion’s main advantage of speed, so steer well clear, while they can get caught out by Siege Tank artillery barrages or picked off from the air by Banshees.

Terran vs Protoss

Use your Hellions in a similar role to Reapers to make smash-and-grab raids on Protoss resources, and stay up close and personal to any range attack units you encounter on the ground to cause maximum damage. Watch out for the classic Protoss tactic of using Sentries with Force Field Abilities to entrap you, while Photon Cannons provide more than adequate protection against Hellion raids on Mineral Fields.

Terran vs Zerg

Cut a burning swathe through massed ranks of Zerglings with the Infernal Flamethrower, and try to attack with Hellions in packs to surround enemy units in tight terrain. Hydralisks are fair game when formed closely together, but spread out are more difficult to take on, while Mutalisks are a highly effective counter to the Hellion, able to attack from above with no retaliation available.

Conclusion

The Starcraft 2 Terran Hellion is immense fun to use during multiplayer matches, but it does have to be micromanaged quite a bit to ensure that you get the maximum bang for your buck against light infantry forces without straying into the path of something a little too hard to handle. On multiplayer maps with strategic choke points and stretched Mineral lines, the Hellion really comes into its own and can quickly cause mayhem amongst opposition ranks.
