    Starcraft 2 Thor - Introduction

The latest installment in our complete guide to Terran forces in Starcraft 2 sees us take on the mighty Thor.

More like walking battleships than normal armored units, the Thor is a lumbering giant on the SC2 battlefield, capable of doling out untold damage to ground, air and building units alike. As with so many units in Starcraft 2, though, the game's balance means that you have to be focused in how you employ and support such a powerful war machine. In this guide, we'll take a look at all the important information on the Thor, as well as highlighting some key strategies and counters for this mobile artillery mech.

Starcraft 2 Thor Strategy, Tips and Tricks

    Starcraft 2 Thor   Strong Against:

    Vulnerable To:

    Terran vs Terran

The Thor is a mightily powerful weapon, but its expense and slow movement means that you are going to want to keep what Thors you have produced going for as long as possible, so support them with SCVs to carry out running repairs, and negate their slow speed by maneuvering them about the map in the Medivac. Place a Thor or two at vital choke points and watch them make mincemeat out of approaching Marine formations, or use their 250mm Strike Cannon Ability to knock out opposing Thors and important building units at your Terran opponent's bases. Be careful if Battlecruisers have been deployed by your enemy, as their Yamato Cannon will take out Thor units with ease.

    Terran vs Protoss

If a Protoss opponent is deploying Colossus units, use the Strike Cannon to take them and their support out from a distance. If taking on Zealot ground forces, only engage from a distance - the Thor will be very vulnerable if you allow it to get surrounded. Void Rays can engage Thors from a surprising distance, while the High Templar with its Feedback Ability can drain this unit's Energy to prevent it employing the Strike Cannon, while also causing heavy damage to it.

    Terran vs Zerg

Thor units are excellent counters for most of the heavy Zerg units in Starcraft 2, especially Ultralisks, but the ponderous movement speed of the Thor does leave it vulnerable to light Zerg units swarming it in overwhelming numbers. As with so many other units, the Infestor is a major danger, with its ability to wrest control of your own Thor and turn it upon your troops.

The Starcraft 2 Thor unit's mighty weaponry can rapidly swing a multiplayer skirmish the way of the Terran forces, as long as it provided with the support to keep it in the field for as long as possible. Defend and repair a Thor well, and its arsenal of firepower can flatten whole swathes of any opponent's forces in Starcraft 2 online matches.
