Starcraft 2 Ghost Strategy, Tips and Tricks

Starcraft 2 Ghost

Strong Against:

Vulnerable To:

Terran vs Terran

The Ghost is the ideal unit for providing back up to your main formations when playing against Terran opponents, providing selective covering fire and crippling key units and building structures at critical moments. Use Cloaking to take up a prime position early, and then call in a devastating Tactical Nuke to wipe out either your enemy’s base or main forces. Don’t stray too close to an opposition base equipped with Missile Turrets, or the game will be up, and watch out for opposing Ghosts sniping you with EMP round and revealing your location.

Terran vs Protoss

The Protoss possess a number of units particularly susceptible to the EMP round, such as the Immortal and High Templar, so this method of attack can find great success against them. As always, steer clear of detection units such as Observers and Photon Cannons. The Tactical Nuke Ability can be compromised by either a High Templar using Feedback to drain a Ghost of Energy, or the Graviton Beam of the Protoss Phoenix levitating and disabling the unit.

Terran vs Zerg

A Ghost’s Sniper Round is great for dealing with the numerous biological units on the Zerg side, and a Ghost can act as a great diversionary tactic if your ground forces are up against overwhelming Zerg opposition, drawing off some of the opposition as they attempt to deal with the unit. Beware high damage dealing units which can quickly take a Ghost out of the fray, and the Infestor, whose Fungal Growth Ability will not only compromise your Cloak but cancel out any Tactical Nuke order you’ve called in.

Conclusion

The Starcraft 2 Ghost possesses arguably more tactical options at its fingertips than any other Terran unit, and this flexibility means that a decent supply of Ghosts should always be a feature of your SC2 build order. While it may require more micromanagement than some other units, the Ghost can produce a spectacular end product, and there are few more satisfying sights than watching a sizeable enemy force obliterated by a Tactical Nuke spotted by a Ghost that they never even knew was there.
