Page content

Not content with providing John Marston with a complete wardrobe of outfits in Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar Games kindly hid some bonus items for players to liven up their virtual representation’s appearance. In this article, we’ll show you how to unlock the Red Dead Redemption Avatar Awards and what classic pieces of designer Western kit become available after you complete each of the necessary challenges. Follow this guide and your Avatar will soon be the smartest-dressed gunslinger on Xbox Live.

Avatar Awards in Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption Shooting Hat Off

Sombrero

An easy Avatar Award to unlock. In fact, you may well do it without realising how. To unlock this fine example of Border headgear, you simply need to shoot an enemy’s hat off his head during the game. Go into Dead-Eye mode, aim for the top of the hat and the Sombrero is yours.

Red Dead Redemption Logo T-Shirt

This fetching piece of apparel for the Avatar-about-town is tucked away in a chest near Riley’s Charge. Head southwards from Armadillo till you find the remains of a (presumably) Civil War battlefield, littered with rusting cannons and other weapons of war. Nearby is a burnt-out shell of a house. Rummage inside till you find the chest. The Avatar Award itself is a a rather cool Black-on-red Red Dead Redemption T-Shirt.

Rockstar Logo T-Shirt

Spoiler Alert! This item of Avatar clothing is unlocked near the end of the game. Once John Marston is home and reunited with his family, put your domestic chores to one side and head upstairs to the attic of the Marston Farm House at Beecher’s Hope. Located in a chest here is an unlockable Rockstar Logo T-Shirt for your Avatar, in a particularly striking shade of yellow-on-black. A great way to show off that you made it all the way through this epic Western.

Posse T-Shirt

The first of the Social Club Challenge unlockables, this Avatar item will become available when Red dead Redemption’s multiplayer contingent hit an (presently) unspecified money target by taking part in the “Strike It Rich” Challenge.

Gentleman’s Attire/Lady’s Finery

There’s been a bit of confusion surrounding this Avatar Award, due to there also being an unlockable outfit in the actual game titled “Gentleman’s Attire” which becomes available to the player if they sign up for a Rockstar Social Club account. The Avatar items, “Gentleman’s Attire” for the boys and “Lady’s Finery” for the girls, become available when you complete the “Skin It To Win It” Social Club Challenge. Unlock these items and your 360 Avatar will be the envy of many an Xbox player.

Conclusion

There are some particularly tasty items of Avatar apparel awaiting the player in Red Dead Redemption, and with Rockstar promising long-term support for the game through their Social Club there may well be further Red Dead Redemption Avatar Awards waiting to be discovered by players with a keen eye not only for fashion but in-game secrets as well.
