Your first introduction to your new Red Dead Redemption contact, Irish, is an interesting one. You'll save him from drowning in a horse trough before he leads you on a wild goose chase and convinces you to take out a cabin full of bad guys. Not a great start to a relationship.

"A Frenchman, an Irishman, and a Welshman"
The "A Frenchman, an Irishman, and a Welshman Red Dead Redemption mission is your first introduction to Irish, a friend of Mr. West Dickens and the only source for the big gun you'll need to take down the gang at Fort Mercer.
You'll save his life, only to be promptly duped into murdering a bunch of bad guys in pursuit of an empty cabin. Don't sweat it, though, this isn't the last time you'll cross paths with Irish.
Be prepared to do a little gunfighting before you take on this mission.

Foreign Relations in the Stables
You'll find Nigel West Dickens' buddy Irish in a bit of trouble at the livery stable in Armadillo. A pair of men are concerned that he has swindled them, and are attempting to drown him in a horse trough.
John interrupts the proceedings, and the two drowners explain that Irish has stolen some guns and horses from them. John attempts to talk his way out of the situation, but the two foreigners aren't looking to listen to reason, and attack. You'll have to teach them a lesson. Killing them both ought to do the trick. Use your Dead Eye to take them both out without getting yourself shot.
After you pull him from the trough, Irish offers to help you acquire a gatling gun for your attack on Fort Mercer. Mount up and follow him to continue.

My, This is a Lovely Room of Death
Your ride leads you to a small cabin and a few unsavory types milling about outside. Irish generously offers to let you go in while he covers you from the rear. The guys at the cabin aren't too happy about your approach, and attack you almost instantly. Luckily, there is a lot of useful cover nearby.
You know the drill by this point. Take them out one at a time from behind cover, being careful to take time to regenerate health if you take a few hits. Once you've take out all the bandits, move inside the cabin to search for your gun. Don't forget to take a moment to loot the dead for ammo and cash before you head in.
Once you get inside, you'll discover that the gun is nowhere to be found, and perhaps Mr. Irish is not the most trustworthy of individuals. You'll have to head out to Benedict Point if you'd like to have a word with him about it.
Your efforts were not totally in vain, though, as you'll gain a little fame as a reward for completing this mission.
