Meet the Characters of Anarchy Reigns

Platinum Games has been no slouch over the past few years. After delivering a solid and incredibly stylish beat ‘em up experience with MadWorld, the company followed it up with an even better action title that garnered critical acclaim. The game was known as Bayonetta, and it enthralled gamers with its nonsensical dialogue and nonstop hack-and-slash gameplay. The company is looking to turn out yet another brawler this year, this time allowing players to take the fight online on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Though there have only been a total of four announced characters, each of them has his or her own unique style, and they definitely fit the Platinum Games mold. Let’s take a look at the characters that are currently out in the open.

Sasha the Ice Queen

Sasha the Ice Queen

The only female character revealed by Sega and Platinum Games thus far is Sasha the Ice Queen. Wielding her deadly Snow Spikes, she can whip, slash, and impale most enemies. It’s going to be interesting seeing how Sasha plays when the game releases. She seems to be fairly agile, and if women in past video games are any indication (Ivy from Soulcalibur comes to mind), then it is safe to say that Sasha is likely to be one of the deadliest characters in Anarchy Reigns.

Zero

Zero

Sasha may be a quick and dangerous Ice Queen, but is she a futuristic ninja? If you like your characters a little more disciplined and a little more traditional, then Zero may be the pick for you. Sporting some high-tech gear and his trusty dual katana, this quick and nimble shadow warrior can cut foes in half just about as well as he can fill them with fatal wounds. I’m not sure about the rest of you, but this guy is likely to be my first pick when I test out the game for the first time.

Big Bull

Big Bull

Remember Big Bull Crocker from MadWorld? Well, if you think Big Bull from Anarchy Reigns is the same guy, you’re probably wrong. Platinum Games may have gotten inspired to create a character similar to the raging monstrosity from MadWorld, but the beast in Anarchy Reigns appears to be a completely different brawler. This cyborg is massive, imposing, and while he may not be the fastest character in the game, he makes up for his lack of speed by packing quite possibly the biggest punch in the game. If you like playing as the lumbering guy who can wipe out dozens of enemies all at once, you probably have your heart set on utilizing Big Bull’s immense strength to your advantage when Anarchy Reigns launches.

Jack

Jack

Remember Jack from MadWorld? Well, if you think Jack from Anarchy Reigns is the same guy, you are absolutely correct! Big Bull may be loosely inspired by a preexisting character, but this is definitely the same Jack we all know and love (unless you’re one of the hundreds of DeathWatch competitors that he brutally slaughtered). Equipped with two deadly chainsaws – which are attached to his arm, by the way – Jack returns for more insane violence. Welcome back, Jack. It’s good to see you again. (Hopefully this doesn’t rule out the possibility for a sequel to MadWorld.)

Anarchy Reigns - Revealed Characters

Anarchy Reigns is scheduled for release sometime between the third and fourth quarters of 2011. Players will be able to choose one of the four characters mentioned here as well as any future brawlers that are sure to be announced prior to the game’s launch (here’s hoping) and take him or her online in Platinum’s upcoming action-packed beat ‘em up. If you’re a fan of the developer’s work, or you’ve been waiting for an online game where you can pummel enemies with a giant hammer, slice them up with dual swords, whip them with an icy weapon, or chop them up, Anarchy Reigns for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 may just be the game for you.
