An Introduction To Left 4 Dead 2

If you are familiar with the Left 4 Dead series by Valve, then Left 4 Dead 2 is not altogether different than the original version of the game. As a survivor, including three others, the player has to fight off the zombies in the cities of Savannah and New Orleans.

The names of the four survivors include Ellis the mechanic, Rochelle the newspaper journalist, Nick the shady gambler, and Coach who teaches high school football. The addition of more of a plot does liven up the game play, and gives it structure. Therefore it is not about shooting and killing zombies but now the more defined plot adds to the enjoyment of the game. Two New Game Modes In Left 4 Dead 2

In terms of game types, there are two modes in which a player can select to have fun in. One type is called Realism. In Realism mode, the games creator has made the zombies more difficult to be killed. It is almost as if the player is shooting blanks. In this mode, the zombies will only die when shot in a certain area of the head and not the body.

The second type of game mode is Scavenger mode. In scavenge mode, the object of the game is not to kill the zombies but to try and obtain gas. There are sixteen gas cans that need to be gotten and filled. The more gas cans the survivor collects and fills, the more time that is added to the game play. At the same time the zombies are trying to stop the player from obtain the gas cans and filling them. By doing so, the player dies if the gas cans are not filled.

Overall Left 4 Dead 2 Game Play

There are some new additions to the game as viewed in the Left 4 Dead 2 demo, compared to the first version of the game. First of all there are the special zombies or the Special Infected, as they are referred to. One of the creepiest is the Spitter who will spit acid at the player. This acid can be deadly when the player is in the weakened state and trying to fend off other zombies. The arrival of the Spitter is the worse during the Scavenger mode of play as it can destroy gas cans.

The second of the specially infected zombies is the Charger. As the name suggests, it will charge at you like a battering ram. During game play if it gets a hold of you, the Charger will try to beat you to death. It is like a truck that drags its victim towards a wall, and then uses its size to destroy you.

The last of the newly introduced Special Infected is the Jockey. As the name suggests, it is like the jockey commanding a racehorse. However, in this game play, the survivor is the racehorse. The Jockey uses its body to attach onto the player and try to move it towards danger. This is all in its attempt to kill the player, and it can make a situation very difficult if the Jockey is trying to position towards a Spitter or a Charger zombie.

However, even with the Special Infected there is still the usual Witches and Boomers from the first game to contend with.

The Weapons of Left 4 Dead 2

Of course with this being a first person shooter game, the most important aspects are the weapons. Anyone who has played Left 4 Dead 2 demo can agree that the introduction of new weapons have made the game more interesting. Weapons at the players disposal invlde everything form a frying pan to an AK-47 machine gun. There are also smaller magnum guns, and hand grenades. Left 4 Dead 2 demo does make use of everyday items such as chainsaws, crowbars, and a guitar to protect survivors from the zombies.

However, in conclusion in certain aspects of the game, do not make the mistake of thinking that bigger weapon is better. Some of the bigger weapons can take longer to reload and fire, which is like a death sentence when a horde of zombies are coming towards you!
