Orianna Abilities - Clockwork Windup
Clockwork Windup [Passive] - Orianna uses her ball as a focus for her spells and attacks. Orianna's ball automatically returns to her if she is too far away from it.
Orianna's autoattacks deal additional damage plus 20% of her Ability Power in magic damage. Subsequent attacks against the same target within 4 seconds deal an additional 15% magic damage. This bonus stacks up to 3 times.
The first part of Orianna's passive is crucial, but mostly effects tactics and playstyle, it will be covered extensively in the third part of the guide. The second part of Oriana's passive is extremely relevant in the early game, where it adds massively to her ability to last hit and harass and is almost completely useless starting mid-game. Use it early then forget about it.

Orianna Abilities - Command: Attack
Command: Attack - Orianna commands her ball to fire toward a target location, dealing magic damage to targets along the way (deals less damage to subsequent targets). Her ball remains at the target location after. Orianna commands her ball to shoot toward a target location, dealing (60/100/140/180/220) (+(0.6 per ability power point)) magic damage to targets along the way. However, it deals (10)% less damage for each unit it hits (Minimum (40)%).
Orianna's bread and butter skill. Doesn't do anything fancy, but it is essential to setting up a good Dissonance or Shockwave. This has decent AP ratios, but is less effective if you try to hit multiple targets with it - keep it behind the creep line for maximum effect.

Orianna Abilities - Command: Dissonance
Command: Dissonance - Orianna commands the ball to release a pulse of energy, dealing magic damage around it. This leaves a field behind that speeds up allies and slows enemies. Deals (70/120/170/220/270) (+(0.6 per ability power point)) magic damage to nearby enemies. The pulse leaves behind an energy field for (3) seconds, lowering enemy Movement Speed by (25/30/35/40/45)% and increasing ally Movement Speed by (25/30/35/40/45)% for (2) seconds. This effect diminishes over time.
This is a deceptively powerful skill, it can act as a Shurelya's Reverie, boosting your team, or as a defensive slow. Perfect for chasing or fleeing and great for initating, especially when followed by her ultimate.

Orianna Abilities - Command: Protect
Command: Protect - Passive: The ball adds (10/15/20/25/30) Armor and Magic Resist to the allied champion it is attached to.
Active: Orianna commands her ball to travel to and attach onto an allied champion, shielding them for (4) seconds from the next (80/120/160/200/240) (+(0.6 per ability power point)) damage. Enemies the ball passes through along the way are damaged for (75)% of the shield value: (60/90/120/150/180) (+(0.45 per ability power point)).
Useful, but doesn't synergize as well with a AP-heavy build as Orianna's other skills. Use this to protect your iniatiors, bring your ball home or for a little extra damage.

Orianna Skilling Order
Level Command: Attack first, it is essential for setting up all of your other skills. Depending on whether you are building for damage or support, level Command: Dissonance or Command: Protect next. Always pick your ultimate. One point in Command: Protect is sufficient even for support builds, especially since the slow/speed on Command: Dissonance can be as effective at mitigating damage as a shield and extra resistances.

Orianna Abilities - Ultimate
Command: Shockwave - Orianna commands her ball to unleash a shockwave after a brief delay, dealing (150/225/300) (+(0.7 per ability power point)) magic damage to nearby enemies and flinging them into the air a set distance in the direction of the ball.
The most impressive Orianna ability, this is a very tactical and useful skill. It is fantastic for initiation (try using Command: Protect on someone like Malphite or Galio and using Command: Shockwave in combination with their initiation), for escaping, setting up ganks and improving positioning. Don't use this to secure kills unless you're sure you won't be able to finish the kill without it, since it is much better used for crowd control. Use it to bring carries to the front of teamfights or drag a fleeing team closer to your chasers.

Orianna Item Builds - Nuker/Caster
Orianna is an extremely squishy character, but she can work effectively from very long range as well as from within bushes or around corners, due to her unique mechanic. For this reason, the strongest Orianna item builds focus on AP, since it improves everything she has, including her survivability due to her shield.
Start with a Mana Crystal a health potion and a mana potion. Even if your runes and masteries are finely tuned, you will still have mana problems, and it builds into several important items.As soon as you have enough gold or are forced to retreat, return to base and buy a Catalyst of the Protector and Boots of Speed. If you are doing well or are having serious mana problems, a Tear of the Godess is an acceptable choice. Stay in lane as long as you can, since level ups will give you health and mana via the Catalyst, then return and buy your Rod of Ages. Orianna needs the health and mana as well as the AP. If you are doing very well, you can buy a Medjai's Soulstealer or a Needlessly Large Rod and leave the Catalyst as it is. Either way, the rod is what you want to get next. As soon as you can, turn the rod into a Rabadon's Deathcap. This is the core of your build.
From here, you can build more AP, in the form of a Zhonya's Hourglass or a Void Staff. Another good overall item is Rylai's Scepter, but it is not necessary because of how effective Command: Dissonance already is as a slow. If at any point you still have mana problems or can't secure blue from your jungler, pick up an Archangel's Staff. Consider squeezing in a Banshee's Veil early on if you are having problems with other casters.

Orianna Item Builds - Support
Use this build if you are still learning Orianna or are laning with someone more likely to do damage than you are.
Follow the caster build until you have Boots and a Catalyst of the Protector. Build Ionian Boots of Lucidity, then go for either an Aegis of the Legion, Will of the Ancients or a Morello's Evil Tome, depending on what you and your team needs. After this, build a Zhonya's Hourglass if you are having trouble surviving or being effective, or a Frozen Heart or Banshee's Veil, depending on the enemy team.
