Guild Wars: Eye of the North

Guild Wars is a MMORPG that is completely free to play each month. The only expense is the purchase of the game. The campaigns released have been Guild Wars: Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. The expansion pack, Eye of the North is also included in the Guild Wars Complete Collection available at most PC game retailers, and online.

Guild Wars Eye of the North (also sometimes known as EotN or GW:EN) is the only true expansion pack to Guild Wars. You do need at least one of the campaigns, such as Nightfall, in order to play it.

The storyline in Eye of the North takes place in Tyria, after “the searing” in new areas known as: Far Shiverpeaks, Charr Homelands, Tarnished Coast, and the Depths of Tyria. Players go on over 100 new quests, enter 18 new dungeons, and introduce: Dwarves, Asuran, Norn, and the Ebon Vanguard.

The quests once completed fills out an entry into a character’s Hero’s Handbook (one is available for normal and hard mode). Dungeons once completed fills out an entry into a character’s Master Dungeon Guide (one is available in normal and hard mode). Once completed, you can turn these in for points on a character’s Norn, Asura, Vanguard, and Deldrimor title tracks.

Norn

The Norn is a new race introduced in Guild Wars Eye of the North. This will be a playable race in Guild Wars 2. In the quest line in GW:EN we see the Norn through Jora’s quest line. Upon completing the quest “Curse of the Nornbear” concerning the Norn, you gain access to Jora as a hero.

Killing monsters, completing quests and dungeons goes towards your character’s Norn rank. Level 10 is the max level, which gives your character the title “Slayer of All.” The higher the rank, the more effective Norn skills are.

Ebon Vanguard

The Ebon Vanguard is filled with those who battle against the Charr. Guild Wars In this quest line in GW:EN we see the Vanguard through Gwen’s quest line. After looking into the “vision pool” in Eye of the North (in the Hall of Monuments) you gain access to Gwen as a hero.

Killing monsters, completing quests and dungeons goes towards your character’s Vanguard rank. Level 10 is the max level, which gives your character the title “Secret Agent.” The higher the rank, the more effective Vanguard skills are.

Asura

Vekk, Livia, Hayda

The Asura is a new race introduced in Guild Wars Eye of the North. This will be a playable race in Guild Wars 2. In the quest line in GW:EN we see the Asura mainly through Vekk and Livia’s quest line. Vekk joins you after arriving in Boreal Station (first stop in Eye of the North). Upon completing the quest “Finding the Bloodstone” concerning the Asura, you gain access to Livia as a hero (she is human, not an Asuran).

Killing monsters, completing quests and dungeons goes towards your character’s Asuran rank. Level 10 is the max level, which gives your character the title “Not Too Shabby.” The higher the rank, the more effective Asuran skills are.

Deldrimor

The Dwarves in Guild Wars Eye of the North mainly come into play towards the end of the quest line in GW:EN. The hero Ogden Stonehealer joins your party after arriving in Boreal Station. The quest line for the Deldrimor, you see them battling the destroyers.

Killing monsters, completing quests and dungeons goes towards your character’s Deldrimor rank. Level 10 is the max level, which gives your character the title “Legendary Delver.” The higher the rank, the more effective Deldrimor skills are.

New Heroes

All of the heroes included in Eye of the North expansion pack are:

Vekk (Elementalist) – unlocked by arriving at Boreal Station.

Ogden Stonehealer (Monk) – unlocked by arriving at Boreal Station.

Gwen (Mesmer) – unlocked by reaching the Eye of the North and looking into the vision pool.

Jora (Warrior) – unlocked by completing the quest “Curse of the Nornbear.”

Pyre Fierceshot (Ranger) – unlocked by completing the quest “Warband of Brothers.”

Livia (Necromancer) – unlocked by completing the quest “Finding the Bloodstone.”

Hayda (Paragon) – unlocked by completing the quest “Give Peace a Chance.”

Anton (Assassin)– unlocked by completing the quest “The Assassin’s Revenge.”

Xandra (Ritualist) – unlocked by defeating her in “The Norn Fighting Tournament.”

Kahmu (Dervish) – unlocked by defeating him in “The Norn Fighting Tournament.”

Elite Armor

All of the new armor in Eye of the North is “elite” and may be entered into a character’s Hall of Monuments, with the exception of the Deldrimor pieces.

Ritualist Monument Armor

Monument – Monument armor is available from Brett at the Eye of the North. Characters need to have at least rank 5 in the Vanguard title track in order to craft the armor. Each piece costs 10k and various crafting materials depending on profession.

Norn – Norn armor is available from Radi in Gunnar’s Hold. Characters need to have at least rank 5 in the Norn title track in order to craft the armor. Each piece costs 10k and various crafting materials depending on profession.

Asuran – Asuran armor is available from Klub in Rata Sum. Characters need to have at least rank 5 in the Asuran title track in order to craft the armor. Each piece costs 10k and various crafting materials depending on profession.

Deldrimor – Deldrimor armor is available from Gobrech Stonefoot in the Central Transfer Chamber. Characters need to have at least rank 5 in the Deldrimor title track in order to craft the armor. Each piece costs 10k and various crafting materials depending on profession. This is not technically a “set” and does not have the ability to be entered into the Hall of Monuments.

Silver Eagle – This armor set is exclusive to warriors that have achieved at least rank 5 in the Deldrimor title track. It is able to be added to the Hall of Monuments, unlike the other “Deldrimor” pieces. It costs 50 platinum, 400 feathers, and 40 Deldrimor steel ingots to craft the set.

Hall of Monuments

The Hall of Monuments is only available through the Eye of the North expansion pack. The main use of the hall is to transfer accomplishments from Guild Wars to Guild Wars 2. What exactly it will transfer to Guild Wars 2 is as of now unknown.

Each character has their own Hall of Monuments. However, you may select to show “account wide” accomplishments and view all of them on each character on your account.

Monuments available (through a Monumental tapestry) include:

Hall of Monuments

Monument of “Devotion” – displays dedicated miniatures. Max viewable at a time is 20.

Monument of “Fellowship” – displays unlocked Heroes with prestige armor, and rare tamable pets. Max viewable at a time is 5.

Monument of “Honor” – displays titles earned on your character, or account. All titles, except PvP titles, require the title to be maxed before displaying. Also displays accomplishments, such as finishing an elite mission or a campaign. Max viewable at a time is 5.

Monument of “Resilience” – displays prestige armor sets. Character must be wearing it (all pieces except the headpiece) in order for it to be displayed. Max viewable at a time is 5.

Monument of “Valor” – displays (and dedicates) destroyer and tormented weapons. Max viewable at a time is 11.
